Gauss gun improves things quite a lot.... once you get a bit better, and gte some seekres and rapid PBCs, you can pirate better.  Anything with 2 tugs as escort, sneak up no the back of the furthest back tug and pulverise with a missile and rapid PBC before it reacts in time, slide back a bit and leather the pother tug from (still fairly) close range and bingo - loverly cargo.

I've got a real love-hate relationship with IW2, methinks... I curse it all the time, yet still have a savegame at 1:36AM

When you get the advanced Patcom, everything really gets easier, you don't need to think about fancy strategies just for two tugs, coz you're in a warship and tugs are... well... tugs  . You'll curse Iwar2 for not allowing you to save your game at certain critical moments, after you get the patcom. Anyway, Iwar2 isn't really that hard, coz I (and i'm not the best pilot ever, believe me) finished it w/o cheating ( lol at DragonClaw who told the last mission of chapter2 was impossible to beat   ) and well, I'm really glad I played it

And at least for me, the situation gets even better after you get Adv. Corvette and combat shields. I admit I'm not that great of a pilot, and the Devastator cam take enough of a pounding to give you time to kill all the Maas escorts of a megafrieghter.. no need to maneuver like mad.

well, when you get the corvette, everything's piece of cake  , excepted you're generally the only one to fly one, and I tend to forget the ships I'm escorting are weaker

Hey man, it took me 9 trys... What really pissed me off was:

SPOILER
After you destroy the 3 Maruader bases, and meet the battleforce at the jump node out, Hoffer kept dying! So I had to redo the mission how many times over...

so I came back to lucrecia each time I destroyed a base, so when I died with the encounter with the corpos, I just had to destroy the last base (which took me I think 5 essays and yes, it really got on my nerves at some point, anyway, I did it anyway   )
