They're 3 different weapons, that fire 3 different ways, but use the same form of firepower, basically a chunk of rock or metal, like small asteroids or bullets.
Mass dirvers punch out higly energized projectiles.
Rail guns use electromagnets to accelerate the projectile, the magnets are in long bars on the front of the gun, like Rails, hence the name.
I cant remember the way a Gauss rifle works, but its similar to the mass dirver.
