I've just gotten a new computer (Dell, very nice, but that's beside the point)

Anyways I've reinstalled FS and FS2 and I've noticed one thing, my afterburners, they don't work anymore. When I press tab I get the click that comes when they're out of juice and it slowly increases speed, like I'm acclerating.

This has me confused, and worried! I wanna chase down the shivans again but can't if I'm too slow :sigh:

You're the second person to report this problem so it's not just you. Get together with Assassin and try to figure out what is different about your XP settings from everyone else.
Karajorma's Freespace FAQ. It's almost like asking me yourself.

If you had asked this two weeks ago you would have been as clueless as I was. Thankfully, you didn't. :D

You will find that you cannot allocate energy, either. Right click on the FS2.exe, Properties, Compatibility.. try all of the different compatibility modes and one will work (Windows 98/ME for me, I am using XP).

However, energy allocation still does not work for me.

Hope this helps,
Jack

Energy allocation doesn't work for me with fs2.exe, but everything works fine with a SCP .exe.

I has some really weird errors the first time I had FS2 installed under XP - for some reason the game would crash every time Aries or Aqaurius wing jumped in, in any mission. Odd.

Since then, though, it's worked flawlessly :)

Energy allocation only is useful in PXO. I've never changed it in SP.

Anyways I'll give it a whirl today

That's a bit silly in the first few missions. If you're using double subachs there's no good reason not to up your shields and engines one notch. Your ship will be faster and tougher and the subach will still never run out of energy (unless you're an extreme "Spray & Pray" type) :D

Why even bother going double subach? Just use one that fires twice as fast.

Yes, you use the Subach in the second primary slot, butyou still have masses of surplus energythat can be happily diverted towards engines. And in bombing mission I usually turn off my guns when attacking big ships, reactivating them if enemy fighters get to cocky.

I use energy management quite a bit, especially in frenzied missions like the Blue Lions section. Dodging lasers and missiles whilst strafing your target and working the control panel of your ship is fun - you feel like a proper pilot, trying to gain every little bit of edge from your fighter

I've never needed to :wtf:

In multi yea, but that's cause it's harder. But I've never had the challenge in SP
