Can somebody suggest me a tutorial where I can learn HTML editing from? What are the most recommended programs for creating homepages etc.

I am currently using(but at least I am trying to use) Word.

Use notepad or similar - its just easier than Word, doesnt have page devisions etc.  If you have word, you might have MS office - try MS frontpage, i use it, its easy enough to use, like MS word, really.
Have a look on Angelfire's site, they have some basic tips for HTML.  I dont know any advanced tutorials, sorry.

Dont have any links for ya, but....
Start off with notepad.. learn the basics with that.. you'll remember it better...
If you want to use a program to make the page though, go with Dreamweaver at least... stay away from Front Page or Word... avoid them like the plague....

But I could get used to Word, it can convert to HTML, I can format letters better and there are more possibilities than in Wordpad.

I made this using Frontpage. How long do you think it would have taken me to assemble it using Notepad and trying to teach meself HTML off of the web?

If you're starting from scratch, Frontpage is a good My First HTML Editor.

Personally I use AceHTML Freeware instead of notepad. You still need to learn the HTML commands yourself (which I am slowly doing) but it makes it far easier to insert pictures and tables etc. and it means that you can swap to your page via the internal browser at anytime without having to save the file first (unlike notepad where you have to do the whole save-refresh cycle every time you want to see what effect your changes have).
Karajorma's Freespace FAQ. It's almost like asking me yourself.

www.w3.org

read xhtml/html specifications ;)

actually that's a good way to learn proper, modern html, but it may be somewhat difficult. I suggest www.htmlcodetutorial.com, however note that some stuff there is deprecated.

Oh and it's a good idea to learn and use CSS

For beginnier-to-advanced HTML tutorials: www.webmonkey.com

I code all my sites by hand - none of that DreamWeaveer/GoLive/FrontPage WYSIWYG crap. Macromedia's Homesite has been with me all the way, since version 2.0 at least, and I still prefer it over anything else. It comes along with DreamWeaver.

For a slightly more advanced look at things, www.devshed.com is good.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I have a special thing: If I upload my HTM up to the net, it can read it very stupidly: stupid ASCII characters appear. Otherwise, if I open it from HD with double-clicking on it, the normal web page appears with the look I want it to have.
