After a lot of speculation and talks with the powers that be during Season 6, and after making certain concessions for Richard Dean Anderson's (MacGyver/Colonel O'Neill) private life, Season 7 was confirmed and went into production much to the joy of the loyal army of Stargate fans.

Now, as Season 7 enters the half-way stage of production, TV-Guide comes through with news of a joyous event; Season 8.

Apparently, where the spin-off and film were moved back to accomodate a Seventh Season, Season 8 will run along side the spin-off and the movie has been converted into the Season 7 Finale.

which is funny seeing that the entire series was based off a movie:D ... i like the stargate itself in the movie... less glowy **** on the ring..

I guess Sci-fi have finally realised that if they get rid of Stargate they won't have any sci-fi set in space left!

As for the movie how is it great news that it gets turned into a TV movie? I suppose it's good that they won't have to dumb the plotline down for those who don't watch the series but I wouldn't have minded going to the cinema to see another Stargate movie.

Apparently, after Sci-Fi butchered the original concepts from the movie (pleasant as the results were) the guy who made Stargate was trying to make some true sequels for a while. Dunno what happened with that though.

There were to be no Goa'uld and the posession aliens (who built the gates) would be energy-beings like in the original movie and I think there'd still only be two gates.

I loved the film, it was all dark and evil. But I like the series just as much so any Stargate movie is good in my books.

the only thing I'm realy worried about is the way there trying to make so much humor it's goa ruin the origonal feel of the show, seson 7 premere was a good example of this, with all the star wars jokes and what not.

There's always been quite a bit of humour in Stargate. Hell, in the first episode they mention McGyvering something together

 To be honest I think it's quite realistic the way that they occasionally mention other Sci-fi cause that's what real people would do

I take it you missed Unnatural Selection?

Humour = good.  Especially in sci-fi...... were it's often obvious that the writers have their heads stuck up their own arses in the belief they're making something which is more improtant than entertainment.  Star Trek and B5 stand as prime examples IMO, for varying reasons.  SG1 actually has a sense of the whole absurdity, and understands it's entertainment.  Hence, it's the only sci-fi series I watch.

Methinks the series resemble Buffy the Vampire Slayer in that it's actually a hell of a lot more successful than the movie it's based on... shows the advantages of being able to build up as consistent universe, rather than cram it into some stunning 5 minute speech by a character in a film.

B5 had a bit of humor tossed in it, not as much as Stargate though.

I agree with Aldo mostly but B5 had some great humourous moments in it. I could name 10 or so without having to draw breath but this is a SG-1 thread so I'll try to avoid dragging it off topic

I dunno..i think B5 lost it in the latter series, after the end of the Earth civil war.... peace gets a bit dull IMO.... I wouldn't hold it in the same level of contempt as i do Star Trek, so my description does come off as a bit harsh.  But I watched the whole series' when it was shown on Bravo (largely due to the B5 mod raising my interest), and I find it harder to re-watch than a lot of other shows (SG1 being a good example, the Simpsons being the pinnacle).  Anyways, best not start a war over TV series........
