Source code Launcher proggy
Ok, I'm having a bit of a problem here, I've got one version of the source code (3.5) that works, in OpenGL 640 x 480 mode, so it is not desperate yet :)
My questions are :-
1) When I download latestversion.exe and place it in the launcher as the FS2 main EXE, it completely refuses to run Freespace at all, it simply wimps out, I think I am doing something wrong, but I have no clue at all what it is :(
2) Whenever I select DirectX as my driver, the system 'Cannot create device' I think the problem here is that I am running XP with Direct X9a, but if that is the case, I have a few words to say about downward compatibility! :(
The 2nd one is on Bugzilla, I've only just found the first :)

Anyway, any pointers, would be helpful, I can post system info if needed :)

Thanks

1) You tell the launcher what .exe to run?
2) no idea.

1) Yep, I use the launcher program that let's you use DirectX8 etc (or, to be more accurate, lets you not use Direct X8 ), I got the Address from the Readme file for 3.5
2) Me either :)

I am running DX9 runtimes, don;lt think it's DX.

Try running the regular FS launcher and configuring.

Lemme look at latestversion and see if it really is that :)

The "Can not create device" look like a launcher bug, its better to use the built in launcher. Open up regedit and go to SOFTWARE\Volition\Freespace2. Delete D3D8_AAType, D3D8_Adapter and D3D8_Mode. Then run the exe again and the built-in launcher should appear(Do not start the luncher after doing this)

I sometimes find myself here on this forum, late at night constantly pressing "Reload" over and over again

There is no built in launcher.
Use the one I have provided.
If it doesnt work make sure you've read all the help text.
Otherwise e-mail me and I'll look into your problem.

The internal launcher isnt still in the release is it?
Because I took it out the code for a reason.

Ok, you've lost me a bit now....

The 'Standard' freespace 2 launcher will only run if I click on the original Freespace icon, no launcher starts when I click the SCP version.
The launcher itself has to be run from the FS2 directory, and, having looked through the Readme, seems to continuously put the wrong value in D3D8Mode, it comes up as 131D, yet the help file states it should be 54D or 154D for 640 or 1024 resolution. No matter what I try, this does not change. I'm reading the instructions for 3.6 to the letter here, though I am using a 3.5 build. When I hit 'Run' I get a hourglass for approx 1/2 second and then 'Cannot create Device'. It's GeForce 4 MX440, so it's not a rare card or anything, either I have an old version of the launcher (I'll check that too) or something wierd is going on :( I even altered the registry to 154 for DX8 Mode using regedit, and although I didn't get 'cannot create device', I also didn't get Freespace 2 :(

Oh yes, and I am using the version from Phreak's siggy :)
