I have nothing against laptops, Its just that my fathers laptop goes where he goes. So I was somewhat limited.

Well, I started on the readme again. Sorry to say more than I had hoped vanished in my computer crash. So as one might say in swedish: Fan va psykande!

Nil desperandum, work has already begun.

PC Inspector File Recovery.  Freeware.  Has worked well in the past for both me and karajorma.

 RANT MODE!

is it just me or does windows get harder to troubleshoot with each version. windows 98 was very easy to fix, with nt and 2000 things got really hard. me is all around crap and i wouldn't use it over any form of linux. xp at least is a descent operating system, but it thinks too much. operating systems shouldnt use more code than neccisary. it makes your computer seem slow. xp has recovery features, but im not too sure how they work, i dont want to test them eithter. you spend 20 gs on an education and they still teach you dos, but you ask for some xp or some linux, and they say no, bastards!

:thepimp: HITS BLUNT :thepimp:
ok im happy again.

Windows has always been a ***** to troubleshoot, main causes of problems are:

The registy
Incorrect .dll & .vxd's
Conflicting .dll & .vxd's
Drivers
Virusses

The registry is the biggest ***** of all to troubleshoot, the rest can be solved (but usually also involve the registry ... *sigh*)

I do this for a living, believe me, no Windows version is decent when it comes to troubleschooting it ;)

Cheers

In my experience Win2k and the subsequent OS's have been much more stable than previous versions. Also, whoever had the brain wave of releasing WinME should be shot.

More stable, as in, less BSOD's? Yes :-)

But not easier to fix when it does get screwed up tho, and that can still happen easilly.

Just think of all them virusses...

But this is OT, so lets drop it :)

Cheers

Whens the next build?
I've made some important improvements and bug fixes to the Launcher which need to be distributed to everyone at some point.

Important note on speech: Unless somethings gone screwy with my cvs (wouldnt be the first time) the speech code isnt in there. There are only calls to the speech module from fsspeech and there are no calls to any fsspeech modules externally. The techroom definately isnt working.

I've just updated so Im fairly sure this is the case, might sort this out myself if needs be since cvs and myself are friends again.

I'll leave that to the thread on speech, it's possible he didn't commit the folder and only committed files that reference it :)
