I downloaded Freespace 2 for the-underdogs but when I try to update it automatically or manually it aborts it because of a problem with the fs2.exe file. Can someone help me ...

Using the HotU download by any chance? If so I've covered this one in my FAQ.

Even if you're not the HotU FAQ also contains links to an FTP server which has all the files you need to update FS2. You'll need a new root.vp as well as the .exe files.

Also have a look into FS2_open. You'd lose the ability to play the cutscenes (well at least until someone gets round to converting them) but you'd gain lots of interesting new graphical tweaks that make FS2 look much better.

speaking of graphical tweaks, does the radeon suppport higher end GPus? i really want to see what it looks like with my radeon 9k

fs_open_r.exe and the launcher y wont it suppport Directx 8?
till i figure this out im running Fs2 on a really sucky integrated graphics chip (about the power of a Voodo 2) :|
