Total annihalation?
anyone heard of or play TA? I think we should get a TA to FS thing goin. And i know most of the stuff in TA are walkers, but why not add a little gundam to it? And some stuff (pelican in its amphibious mode or the ships) would make good looking Capships/Fighters (albeit strange ones.) Plus theres all the stuff that people modded into that game which we could mod into this one. We also could always change the look of some units and call them MKII's.

What do you think?

I have played with it. I liked it, but somehow I couldn't play with that more than a month.

Yeah, I know of it. Great game. No, they're not gonna let you add it.

Isn't even older than FS1?  Or at the least the same age.  If we want to start supporting yet another game, how about something a little newer.  And besides, as good as TA was, Starcraft was more fun IMHO.

I think if you're gonna be talking up Starcraft as a great strategy game, you need to take the "H" out of that last abbreviation. It was to gaming what Basket Weaving 101 is to education- and that's saying a lot, since most games are pretty intellectually lightweight as it is.

I somehow never liked Starcraft much, but thought that TA was simply amazing for its time (and still is to some extent).

I have it, haven't played it in ages though. Sandwich is also a big fan and still plays IIRC.

But if you are going to bring up some big, monstrousterous modding project, why not put FS into TA via a TC?

fear my abbreviations...

No I'm not.  I like it better than TA though.

There are rumors the TA2 is being developed.

I really don't want to get anybody's mood away from the Total Annihilation -- FS2 Convention, just keep that in mind that how old the Star Wars convention is, for example, or the 158th, and where they are standing now. As I know SW has most of the most popular ships done, and FREDing, voicing, testing etc. are still not an option.

Anybody from SWC? Am I right or you are standing better than I think?

KT: Correction - I would still be playing it if I had my darn discs! :doubt:

Anyway, TA had zero story-line, so methinks that the most anyone could reasonably do is to take some of the unit models and plug them into Freespace. Since TA uses Rhino (which, incidentally, is how I got started on Rhino), you can use the Rhino -> FS2 tutorial (link in siggy) to help you out.

Anyway, the most I see coming out of this is a unit pack, really. It's nigh on impossible to take a planet-based unit set and project the designs into space ships.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

and oddly enough Iv just learned how to mod units, I just reacently took the quake units and gave them realer names and weapons :D

but I would help on what I can for a FreeSpace mod if some1 just models and crap for me, and I'll be willing to do the sounds and UFO packing too ;)

Oh yeah? Watch me.

TA was one hell of a game and it is older than FS1 but its community is still larger than FS2 and SC. I hated the SC campaign ( to much base building) TA has alot of base builkding but somehow its more fun.

Also TA was cutting edge and still is. Only game with realistic fighter physics, Shooting physics (like the way tanks could futily try to shoot airborne targets even though they were meanbt to shoot ground ones, Futile but they COULD) and terrain physics.

i know some games have done the fighter and terrain but none have come close to its amazing shooting physics.

Or just convert the airplanes... some of them were actually pretty cool

And I had the same with Imperium Galactica 2. That's really a space game. But it would be difficult to model the ships, because there are so many of them.

Funny how you never have anything worth saying to say, just garbage about other people you make up on the spot. It's depressing to think that your posts make up a huge percentage of the board, while the content makes up nearly none.

Total Annihilation Air Units
Total Annihilation is one of the best strategy games I have ever played.  The bets thing to do is stick to the air units because if we follow a gundam idea it will run into some problems.  If some of the crafts could be redesigned then you could have a sporting chance into making a campain on this sort of thing.  Best of luck;)
