Today my computer started to act extremely weird and I began to suspect a virus. Sure enough I got a virus scan and sure enough...there it was, two copies of a Java Applet worm. Nasty stuff. I did get to delete it though.

Curse you hackers!

If that's the MS Java VM vulnerability I'm thinking of then it was discovered and patched nearly two years ago now, do you understand the concept of Windows Update Hotfixes Virtu or are you one of those dumb ****s who are too scared to use it?

So? Too many hackers work for the NSA or large corporations for me for one to worry about insulting their name.

First off, impressive usage of insults Admiral LSD...I'm sure your mommy loves you for your skills.

Interestingly enough, I update my Windows at least every month, and yes, I know how terrifying it was...it annoyed the crap out of me for the two hours it took me to find it and finally delete it.....my keyboard was possesed.

@demon442: I use some online virus scan that my ISP recommends called HouseCall, it can be found at the same site I got that virus info from.

Anyway, this is a virus that was first noticed on May 24th of this year.

That's not what I meant, there is a group of people out there who won't touch stuff like Windows Update with a ten foot pole becuase they're under the mistaken impression they have some semblance of privacy on the internet and are afraid of letting even the tiniest bit of info leave their comps. These people are idiots and we'd be doing the gene pool a favour if we rounded them up and systematcially kill them all and their kids, if they've had any.

And yet I can only wonder why people don't properly protect their systems from hackers, crackers, viruses, trojans, etc, etc.

There's many good free firewalls and anti-virus softwares out there. Some webpage based virus checker is hardly enough.

A good firewall is Sygate Personal Firewall (standard version) and a good anti-virus is avast! 4 Home Edition.

And I agree with Admiral LSD. People are just utterly paranoid about everything. Which is plain stupid. Little paranoia does not hurt as it will make you avoid possibly malicious sites and such, but when you find yourselves checking your pants for possible gps trackers, you've got a problem.

I have Zone Alarm but it just seems to mess up things so I barely ever use it.

Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

I use Zone Alarm Pro on my main computer and Zone Alarm on all the others. Haven't had any problem with it for ages (and the one problem I did have was fixed in an update about a week after I reported it).

What problems have you had with it?

I have a very pathetic system and I cant seem to afford to lose any more system resources than I already do with the games I play. Plus I'm 33.6 for crying out loud :)

Gah...

Well first off, 56K modems arent but $20 here in the US.  Second, RAM isnt but $70 for a 256 DDR stick.  Third, www.grisoft.com has a very good antivirus that works wonders if you keep it updated and dont do anything stupid.

DDR SDRAM can handle data transfer on both the rising and falling edges of a clock pulse making it roughly twice as fast as regular SDRAM at any give bus frequency.

Let me see if I can remember the last time I had a virus... um...

oh that's right. On my personal system, I've never had anything more complex than win32.concept (oh, the memories). How do you lot keep getting viruses on your machines? Dodging viruses isn't that difficult.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]
