Anybody know how we can make sure people have balanced decks?

 
How are Magic decks balanced?  I don't play the game much (I borrow other people's decks) so I don't know how the decks are put together.  I think it's something to do with relative proportions of different card types.

Maybe you could say that a player must have at least twice as many Corvettes as Destroyers, twice as many Cruisers as Corvettes, and four times as many fighters as Cruisers?

Well, Magic decks come in packages, with everything proportioned, these are printable.:D

We've decided on making it so you can't have more fighters than your capships and installations (for the Capture the Planet mode of play, you might be able to launch a few fighters from ground bases) can hold. The more rare the card, the more "space" it takes up in a ships hanger.

Also, each specific map/gameboard may have rules as to how many destroyers and installations you can have.

Well, just a thought, but maybe you could give the ships action points, so for example, a Perseus might have 5 action points, it can either attack for 1 point or move 1 sector for one point? That way a Perseus can 'Intercept' e.g. 'Move, Move, Move, Attack, Attack' or, when in combat with another unit at the start of a round, it has 5 attacks.
Other ships may have lower attacks, but do more damage per combat round ;)
This means something like a Corvette would have 2 action points, as would a Destroyer, it can enter a system and attack a target once in a turn, or attack twice while in combat, but it hits DAMN hard!
The only downside to this system is that it does not account for manouverabilty of fighters, so a Corvette is just as likely to hit a Squad of Ulysses with it's main guns as a Shivan Cruiser (Though you could probs do something with subtracting one ships AP's from the others). You might find that Capital Ships will need 2 firepower ratings, Anti Capship and Anti Fighter.

the cards are lookin nice but why not take the screenshots in fs_open_s?  the ships would look infinitely better.

Because we have so many cards, it would be impractical.
Besides, we've decided that this slightly "painted" look works well for a card game.

The cards will be released tommorow, in a non-deck format, so you can do whatever you want with them, as long as it follows the deck rules.
As for right now, the official rules can be downloaded here, in a word doc format:

I MAY consider doing some cards that way, for a sort of "special edition" for a few of my personnal favorite ships.

nice style an0n, but it doesn't have any stats :D
and, you also have to remeber, ppl are gonna be printing these at home or at a school printer, they can't be too complex because we dont have the benefits of mass production.

EDIT: I will, however, talk to Solatar about improving our designs a bit...

EDIT2: If we do decide to do something like that, however, it's gonna be for the Capital Ship deck (our next release), and all other ships down the line. We don't want to delay this release any longer, because we want some ppl to get some playtesting in as well, so we can release the next version of the rules set.
