Day of the Tentacle intro, eh? Yeah, that rocked...

And about this mini-war with SC, E2150 and TA, lemme clarify things:
SC: The complx story was one of the two biggest pluses this game had going for it. The other one was the well-balanced but vastly different sides, especially since it wasn't just 2 sided. Dune 2 was cool because it had 3 sides, and AFAIK SC was the only other major RTS game up till then that had 3 factions. I could easily be wrong about that, though.
However, SC
was a 2D isometric game, after all, and the terrain wasn't very varied (2 levels, no?).
All in all, it was fun to play, but the game itself wasn't groundbreaking - everything around it (story, side balance) was.

E2150: The concept for the game, with all the little interactive things one could do with the terrain, was simply amazing. Tunnels, primary home base, weaponry swapping, in-level tech development, 3 factions (yays!), something other than the destruction of the enemy to shoot for - it had a lot going for it.
My main gripe with this game was that it was slow and seemed to get bogged down even more as the level went on. Also, everything aside from the game itself and the story (interface, cutscenes or lack thereof, etc) was pretty horrid.
All in all, it could have been awesome, and if you're willing to look beyond its faults, probably was awesome.
TA:

I will always have a soft spot for this game. Coming along at the same time as SC, TA was stunning in every way. Near-photo-realistic maps, true 3D units without any inherent slowdown or need for a 3D accellerator, massive(!) maps and battles, humongous amounts of units, easy MODdability, ingenious SHIFT command queing (boy, did that make things easy!) - I could go on and on.
I must say that this game was also the first big RTS to include land, sea and air units equally.
The biggest boon to this game, just like us here with the Freespace universe, was it's loyal following of players. They still are pumping out incredible maps and units for the game, some of which truly are photorealistic (using heightmaps from geological surveys, etc).
Unfortunately, the storyline was pretty basic and uninspiring, although epic. There were no movies aside from the intro (and outtro?), but IMHO that wasn't a big problem - the point of it was the game, not the story.

All in all, this is one game that constantly occupies over 1GB on my HD, even to this day. Why so much? The add-on maps and units, of course. It's always a ball to have a network game with my bro now and then - TA rocks.
