Marines whizzing around in the FS2 engine!
If the FS engine has rotating, or moving parts, then couldn't you do up a head which rotates and tracks like a turret within a certain field of degrees, as well as have the legs slightly animated to dangle?

Of course I'm clueless on how .pof files work, so if all you can do is rotate, then let's just have the exorcist!

Imagine dropping a Helios into the middle of a squad...

And in XWA they were an absolute ***** as they were tiny but the group of them could do reasonable damage if you let them.  Crap idea in that game, might be good in FS, although guarding them could be a nightmare.

Surely they'd be too small to get a proper lock on? But other than that this sounds like a good idea.

Hey if you still need the base model (no texturing) I can easily convert the Zero-G Stormtrooper from XWA.

As for the balance...in XWA it'd take about 6 of these guys to do as much damage as a lone tie fighter. (ie six shoots at once to the one tie burst)

How that? In XWA there is only one Imperial Laser, the TIE has two of them, and the Zero-G one.

In those mission in XWA where they where used I just shot a single proton torpedo into every wing, and boom, all troopers gone. He, he.

Star I meant the troopers did about the same damage to my X Wing in a group as one TIE was able to,...roughly.

It has been over a year since I flew that you know  

But what I was getting at,..a Marine wouldn't really be a threat alone,..even a Subach is way too powerful for one to use ,..think about power,..a Subach draws it's power from the main power generator of a fighter,..which is a bit too large to strap onto a person  

I'd make a weapon basically like the Subach and another similar to a Maxium but both lowered damage for them to use.

One vs one..marine vs fighter...no threat...but in groups they could be deadly.

Give them an extremely under powered Subach, the SD-4 Sidearm, also a very short range (150 meters) low power anti-fighter beam that is effective against other marines. (GTW-91 Thermal Lance)

No no no, if you want marines you use them to deliver mines to an enemy's hull.  If they happen to blow up too early, then oh well

Well then we'll need two or three varieties of marines:

  • mine laying marines
  • assault/surgical strike marines (against cruisers/destroyers - so small that AAA cannot target them)
  • anti-marine marines (ie. trained to take out other marines)

That would be cool, but very difficult. Remember they wouldn't be able to move like in an FPS. They could probably use that beam thingy that one of them used to wipe out the last marine in the Hall Fight.

we could add animation and such now that we have the source. I personaly think the shivans wouldn't use there solder drones for exterior atacks, at the least they would have a spesalized solder.

Well I do have an idea for animating objetcs, I've already talked about this with the other people of the mod we're making and they think it MAY be possible, without tweaking the source... That's a little special, tought... I'll see if I can post my idea here with the staff...
