Motherboard or controller card
Hi all.

Ok to start off, i had my pc crash, the keyboard locked also, and at that i did what anyone would do.. (reboot).

Well after it started back up again and did the normal scandisk thing it stated that windows was reporting the wrong drive space and asked if i wanted to correct the error, now this has happened before with this drive so i chose to correct the error, then states for me to restart the system so the new settings can be used, ok, no prob, so i do so.

Now is where my problems start.. Well the pc does the normal loading of all bios settings then freezes, got the curser blinking at the upper left hand corner of the screen, so i walked away and got a cup of coffee, when i return it hasen`t changed,:sigh:  now what to do! So i reboot again and now it states it can`t find the OS operating system :wtf: I did try the emergency windows startup disk, no good, tried fdisk, which i have used extensively to partision drives, even fdisk can`t see the drive. So now i try something a little drastic, can`t use the drive as it is anyway, so i enter the format command and to my suprise, it gets an error and states the drive contains zero megabites. :eek2: Now this is an 80gb harddrive  I didn`t know what was worst, losing all data that i have acumulated or the fact that my pc is now useless. I have since replaced the drive, but now its running weird..

This is the first pc i`ve owned that had a harddisk controller card in it, all my pc`s before this one, the drives were straight off the motherboard, and i`ve never encountered this.

So what do you think, controller card, or motherboard.

I am aware that running my drive from the motherboard may not give me the same drivespace as using the controller card, but i am open to suggestions.

This is what you get for running FAT32 ;)

Seriously though, I suggest you get yourself a hold of something like the Gentoo Basic Stage 1 LiveCD  or even tomsrtbt and, using the Linux cfdisk or fdisk tools, seeing if you can't zero out the partition table and start again.

Hey, atleast your PC turns on...  I am currently unable to get my PC to even power on, let alone boot.

(I had windows, but only 1 HDD registerred, so I opened it up, disconnected the HDD, and then reconnected it, turned it on, and had no video, mouse or keyboard, so I disconnected and reconnected everything, and now nothing works... *doesn't know what went wrong*)

I can tell you what the problem is... the guy who made this PC for my parents (They surprised me with it a few years ago) skimped and used cheap parts. Needless to say, the feds shut him down a little while back, and locked him up. Great, aint it?

I replaced an 80gb drive with a 40gb.. I`m on a budget, which my wife has set, bills that have to be paid, like house payment and a few loans, we helped our (2) kids to get there own credit and are now making there payments for them when they don`t have the money, don`t figure. Well our son is at least trying to pay us back, but our daughter on the other hand is not, and she still comes crying about how she can`t pay this bill or that bill. I think were doing enough for her as it is, she should be thankfull we are pulling her ass out of dept, but she isn`t as always.

Back on subject.
Got it up and running on the new drive, but with half the diskspace, win some, lose some i guess.. :blah:

Sorry to hear about your luck Raa Tor`h, hope everything works out for you.
