Where do I get started, and with what tools?

if you already have the video on your HD, it depends on what you want to do. if you want to do SFX like lightsabers, get Adobe After Effects, Premiere, and Photoshop. (i assume you have broadband). if you just want to cut'n'paste, or add titles, you will only need After Effects.

To make my trailer all I used was Premier and Lightwave, nothing more nothing less...it really depends what you're doing... if you are organizing scenes that are rendered, stuff like that; Premier is great. Its got a few effects but they really suck, so if you want to add effects into your movie, get After Effects. Thats all you really need.
