Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman

Matrix Revolutions Trailer!
A while ago I got the one with Smiffy laughing... slightly disturbing to say the least.

Anyway, I was enjoying that thread we had a while back with all Ashrak's theories, so I'm reviving its spirit and trapping it in the shell of this one. Now, we had concluded that the reason the Matrix was inherently unstable was because of the machines inability to think outside the box, that is to say they think in ones and zeroes whereas humans can hold two opposing points of view at the same time and believe them both to be right, and go on to make illogical actions because we can choose our own fate, choose to fly in the face of all logic if we wish.

Now, the moral of the Matrix trilogy is all about the human ability to make choices. Which is why Neo was able to save Morpheus - the machines never expected a rescue attempt because the chances of sucess were so low that they would never have made the attempt themselves. Their logic dictated that Morpheus would be killed. But Neo made the choice to go, despite reasons not to. Hence the lines 'nothing like this has ever been done before' 'I know... that's why it's going to work'. The machines simply couldn't conceive a human making such a foolhardy attempt.

Anyway, what I believe will be the great irony of the overall story is that while choice is what seperates us from them, it will not be our choices which defeat the machines in the end. Because in a story of so many variable, with so many twists and head-****s, where nothing is ever as it seems, the real wild card is Smith. And Smith is now free from the system (well, so it appears). Morpheus line 'he fights for us...' in Revolutions has me convinced - it is Smith's choice that will defeat the machines. Not, perhaps, because he likes us but because he hates them for imprisoning him for so long in the Matrix amongst the smelly organic beings.

My money's on Smith to be the deciding factor. Roll on November! (or whenever it's out)

Interesting trailer, there seems to be a third faction now.

Basically:

Machines
Morpheus and co
New freaks

Perhaps the others are rogue programs going against Morpheus and human-friendly programs like Seraph. It's also possible that, knowing the prophecy was a lie, suddenly people are hostile to Morpheus and co. (That would explain why they don't like Seraph, he was with the Oracle)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Matrix Revolutions Trailer!
I've got two theories throwing around in my head...

Go with me for a second on this:

1st theory: The Matrix is...wait for it...wait for it...an "On-line FPS/RPG Game" of the future. It's like real life, but the thing is. It isn't. When you die in either the matrix or "in real life" (which is like a lobby of sorts...only it's part of the game too) you get lose, and you can't enter the game as that character. Now...we get to the interesting part. The Machines. The bad guys of course. or are they? Are they part of the game? or are they hackers? They can dodge bullets, and can transport to another location via other NPCs. Sorta sounds like what a hacker can do in TFC, or CS now doesn't it? The thing is. Neo is also a Hacker. And he's got a hellva lot of hacks! Bullet dodging, invinciblity, flying! Now, don't get me wrong though. He can still be killed while he's in the "lobby". The only way to beat the game...and reset the game server. is the beat the Machines and free all of mankind!

2nd theory: The Matrix is one of dozens or hundreds of matrixes! It's part of something I'd like to call..."The Multi-Matrix". Well let's think about this for a moment shall we? There has already been...6 matrixes hasn't there? Well, what if the machines thought up a fail-safe system? They created a "multi-matrix" program, which makes few choosen people think they've left the matrix, but they are still hooked up. The only thing that can stop the multi-matrix, is...basically...a power surge. It'd overload the machines and cause the matrix...or matrixes to deactivate. Now the power surge thing...I haven't quite figured it out. I'll reply when I've thought up how a power surge could work.

Those are my theories! Flame them, ponder at them, and add your own theories!

I'd bet anything that the 3rd faction are the corrupt programs. If you look at them, they look EXACTLY like the vampires + people from the Enter the Matrix game.

the real wild card is Smith

If that is true, why would he fight Neo? Why would he send one of his to the real world to kill Neo and others? Why would he sabbotage the fleet at the end of Reloaded? Does that make Neo a bad guy?

No. It makes Smith a wildcard. You're fond of dictionary.com, look the word up.

I guess he's just been testing his theory about alcohol increasing your brain's average thinking speed. But that doesn't matter, because it wasn't his idea in the first place. Read this.
