Question concerning Installation MODs
OK, here's the deal. This topic is related to FRED and making new installation MODs and new briefing icons.

CP5670 and I are in the process of creating several briefing icons for new releases of the SI Arachnas, GVI Cairo, GTI Acheron and GTI Scylla/GVI Cheops installation MODs.

After using a new icon.tbl file, I found that when I went into FRED and made a briefing icon for the GTI Arcadia, a terran destroyer icon appeared! The same thing happened for the other terran and Vasudan installation MODs and when I made an icon for the SI Arachnas, a Knossos icon appeared! I NEVER got an installaion icon as the default icon for any of these MODs. I removed the extraneous tbl files, but the problem still remained with the GTI Arcadia (terran destroyer icon appeared again, even after uninstalling and re-installing FS2).

I know that each of the ships in the ship.tbl file have a flag in their entries. In fact, I founf that when I switched the flag on the SI Arachnas from "knossos" to "capital", a shivan destroyer icon appeared when I clicked on the SI Arachnas. This proved to me that the flag was the problem.

Unfortunately, i can't seem to find the flag for installation icons. I extracted the original ships.tbl again and the flag on the GTI Arcadia is "capital" not "installation" or anything like that. (And the flag for the Ganymede repair station is "cruiser", but I knew that was screwy.)

My question is this: does the GTI Arcadia have a destroyer icon as its default icon (and I never noticed it before)? (The installation icons work; I can select them with the object icon selector in FRED, but that is kind of tedious.)

Is there anyway to get a MOD to show an installation as its default briefing icon?

Yeah, I tried changing the flag to "installation" but FRED crashed when I tried to open it. I don't have a clue what the flag for the installation icon should be and how it EXACTLY needs to be spelled.

Anyone have any ideas?

Jon, did FRED crash on you when you tried to change the flag to "installation" also?

Question concerning Installation MODs
1. place Arcadia down in FRED
2. Open the briefing editor add a stage and create an icon for the arcadia
3. Go to icon image and pick installation

That should help.

As for changing it all the time, well i dont mind doing it but i can be anoying when you realise when you play the mission you haven't changed the image.

This does work, but I mentioned that previously when I posted the topic. Doing this for all installation MODs is tedious; I'm wondering if there is a way to change the flag to a default icon.

Everyone reading this topic, just answer me this: When you go into FRED and create an Arcadia Installation and press "Create Icon" for it, what appears? If all of you answer "a terran destroyer icon", then I'll mention this problem (and the solution of simply changing the icon image manually) in the read.me for all the MODs.

Let me know your answer.

I thought as much. It looks like [V] dropped that ball again here.     Oh, well.

I'm going to put something in the readme files for all the installation MODs about switching the installation icons manually in FRED.

CP should have the Scylla and Acheron icons ready in a few days. He also has to create a new icon.tbl file for the MODs. This file will be included in all the revised MODs so no cutting and pasting of the original extracted icon.tbl file is necessary.

Hey, I've done briefing icons!

Those are done in the icons.tbl file. DO NOT ADD ANY NEW ENTRIES but you can change the existing ones without any problems.

Remember to do both the fadeicon(ship).ani and the icon(ship).ani

Yeah, it's a capital. An unresolved issue from FS1, I think - but it had become second nature to change the icon, so I had forgotten it was a capital - had to check!

Sweet! Let me know if you got the MOD zipfiles I sent this morning (GTB Gagana and so forth). There were a lot of them, and more are still to come.
