Took some searching. Edrick's Brontes is much much bigger than mine, and honestly far better looking. the bigger version is called the Brontos.

Thanks, Venom. :) That means a lot.

I've made some changes, mainly downplaying the flashers a bit, and widening the cockpit to make it a plausible two man craft. I'm thinking that the flashers probably need to be much smaller and on the end of long booms. I'm not going to put that in though, because it just doesn't look 'Freespace' enough.

I've done the LODS for the Tug and the cargo container, and a debri chunk for the container. I've also done the thruster cones and the shield mesh. I just need to do the debris for the tug itself and then I can hand this off to some friendly person to do maps and stuff. I'd like to talk to the person who does the maps, since there's some things I'd like to see done.

for the flashers, may I suggest something similar to the shoulder ones on the Zero labor from patlabor ( I guess you know? )?

That's an interesting idea--but where would I mount them?  The Zero Labor has them mounted on L-brackets from the shoulders. I could do the same here, but all I could do is put them above and below the side docking collars.  That doesn't move them or really change them much from the raised pylons that I've already got.

Maybe I'll do some other civilian designs, like police and emergency vessels and the like.

Police... emergency... I can see it now...

"911 emergency response, please state your emergency."

"This is Alpha 2, I'm calling to report a collision.  My wingmates just flew into each other."

"Alpha 2, I'm dispatching police, fire and emergency vehicles to the scene.  Try to remain calm, and wait there until they arrive."

With the way FS AI flies, a police force would have their hands full just handing out citations ;)

Seriously though, I like the idea.  Lightly armed and armored (sub military grade) and fairly small, but with a little bit of flare.  The kind of thing where you would see them in an urban setting without looking grungy.  However, I'm not sure what kind of energency one would have in space that would require that kind of response.  Collisions between armored craft don't seem to bother anything inside the ship, and collisions strong enough to get through any armor inevitably will depressurize the cabin and kill anyone inside.  A civilian merchant fleet (complete with tugs for when ships break down) would be really nice to see though, as well as a police force flying one or two types of ships that can defend trade lanes against rogue thugs who have somehow gotten their hands on a ship.
who needs a signature? ;)

I don't see why FREESPACE: COPS couldn't be a kickass micro campaign. ;)

I have the untextured meshes for a couple police ships, made by killmenow ( the first OTT loop was supposed to be an undercover mission in a sol police patrol near Earth ).

Venom - you wanna post those meshes? I'm sure somebody'd take a crack at texturing them - this is a damned good idea.

The Asher-class Tug w/ Cargo

There you go. I'm done with the geometry. Model is in LW7 format and the layout of the file is as follows:
Layers 1-4: LOD0 thru LOD3, tug
Layer 5: shield, tug
Layer 6: thrusters, tug
Layers 7-10: debris, tug
Layers 11-13: LOD0 thru LOD2, cargo box
Layer 14: debris, cargo box

There just didn't seem much point in doing more debris for the cargo. :D

The only requirement if you download and use this mesh for use in Freespace is that all work you do with it must be made public and useable for any and all mods immediately. No exceptions. No exclusive rights are granted to any individual, mod, or campaign, period.

Well yeah, but you can convert it to 3ds. :p

And if nobody else will do it, I'll see if I can have one of my guys or GE finish and release it. Kudos to Mik. :D:D

Venom, I could give a LW->Max conversion a shot, if you'd like. There's really nothing terribly interesting going on in this mesh that would cause it to go ugly as a .3ds. Can Max import LWO v5 (LWOB v.1) objects? If so I can dump it in that format. Heck, I could put it in a COB or any other multi-part format you want. :)
