Anyone here remember a "Space Truck" freighter of sorts.. IIRC it was called the Brontes or another B name. I could have swore it was modeled, by who I don't remember. Yes, I did a superhappysearch , but to no avail.

Anyone know of it, or am I making all this up, trying to lull you guys into a false sense of security before I spring my ultimate weapon that will destroy us all?

Not a clue, sorry. I've lost count of the number of promising mods I've lost in the depths of this place... :sigh:  When you say "space truck", what do you mean, exactly? I remember a few pretty good freighter WIPs from four or five months back, but they've sunk without trace since then.
Any fool can pull a trigger...

I said space truck because the idea was that it would be a fighter sized ship, but the back had prongs to connect to a container, like the bed of a pickup truck.

I could throw together something like that. I think the one you were talking about, though, is CodeDogND or Elrick's (sp?). I seem to remember him working on exactly what you're describing.

Anyway, throwing together a cargo tug would take about half an hour for the basic mesh.

Colors are for reference only. Yes, those are flashers on
top. There should really be a pair on the bottom as well.
I just didn't think of it until right this moment. I'm seriously
considering redesigning the sides ove the main body to have
octagonal docking collars. Of course, those would have to
be textured in. The thing slung under the nose is a sensor
module. I don't know if this will fit a standard cargo container.
If not, I could always throw together a custom one.

If you like, and you want it completed, as I said, I'll finish out
the modifications listed above, then build LODS, debris, thrusters
and a shield mesh. You just have to get someone to map it,
path it and convert it to a POF.

Slight rework. Side docking collars are in place. Ventral flashers
are in place. I've put in a cheese ball cargo pod. Other minor tweaks.




I figure if you had  a storyline where some dock workers were
desperate enough, they could mount secondary banks on the
docking collars and have a slow, unwieldy bomber, or something.

I'll throw together all the other geometry for it either this
weekend or next week, when I have time.

Hey they could carry a big big fusion bomb instead of  a container in the back. Add some small manover thrusters to it and you would have  the biggest bomb ever build or put together many ov these bombs...like the containers where mounted in space truckers.

If that thing goes into battle and releases all bombs at ones you could make quite an overall bombardment (Releasing them in a cluster, like the hornet swarm missiles)

In Independence War 2, this was called 'antimatter bowling'. Soften up a volatile cargo pod (preferably antimatter or neutronium warheads), dock it to your ship, and then charge toward a a superfrieghter. Undock and thrust override out of the way. The impact will blow the pod and the target will never consider you hostile since you didn't actually fire on it.



Venom, thanks. Yes the flashers are huge, but I figure they aren't just flashers. They could also be active short range sensor arrays. In game this could be represented (if possible) as very fast cargo scanning and the like. A cargo tug would have something like that, I think, if only to help the dock workers do their day to day job.



So, is there enough interest for me to do the rest of the geometry? Will someone do all the stuff I can't do for the mesh to make it a POF? Help KT out here. We'll release it as a community mod for anyone to use, like the Raynor.

oh yeah :D I remember that, actually, given enough speed, any cargo could deal damage, but with antimatter stuff, it could turn out... interesting :D the pb is, you would bust the megafreighter, and if lucky the escort, but the cargoes would go pop too ( well, iirc )

yeah, that's an idea ( altho I always find odd when civilian ships have better stuff than militaries )

The good news is, I can map and POF it. The bad news is I can't actually make the textures.

Would you consider modifying the model to use standard TAC1s and/or TC2s?

I'll need to grab the mesh for them out of the VP. I don't know how many changes I will have to make though. Any particular reason we can't use a custom container? It'd certainly make life easier. :D

Unfortunately I didn't save the jpg. but I remember it was posted so a search should turn up something? If I remember correctly it was a small to medium sized frighter and there was gonna be a larger version of it called the mammoth or mastadon (I think)... Can't think of the modler, sorry...
Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide target selection !
