Everyone makes stuff to their own tastes, I like the explosions, but then, I like bright lively images, some people prefer darker, more gothic images

Everything has it's place. It's not the colors or the brightness of the image in general that bother me, it's the fact that those "joyful" colors and the theme of war don't fit together that well.

First two are pretty cool. Would be nice to have a bit more blur and a bit more particle fade in the explosions (particularly the lower one), but in an anim they'll look all right. The fire trail in the fourth one looks like ass, but you can do a quick fix by reducing the yellow (by a lot) and adding a second particle trail (similar but fatter, with slightly larger gray particles) for smoke.
