First of many no doubt....(I'm a TR newbie so no p*** takes, Ta!)
how do I know if I'm working to the right "scale" ?
I don't want to build the perfect Battlestar Galatica Viper, go to the effort of creating a working model, and find it's the size of an Orion !!  :wtf:

AFAIK, but i never modded a thing. you can change a model's size in PCS and/or modelview.

no, only segeltuch allows rescaling, and it badly messes up things, as well.

Iirc, the size in TS has to be divided by 20 to get the normal size in FS2.

PCS doesn't allow REscaling but it does allow you to choose the scaling factor when you first convert the model. Go to the options and you'll see that it's set to a default of 20 FS metres to 1 TS metre. Play about about with this until your ship is the right size.

GMax allows you to select your scaling for when you export it.

Truespace is funny in that you almost always end up creating something in about 10% of the size you want it to be.  Max, on the other hand, tends to put you at about 10x scale to start out with.  Neither is bad, but it usually works out better if you can convert the model on something close to a 1:1 ratio.  Keeps faces from getting screwed up as easily (PCS can do that from time to time, or at least the older varients could)

It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

PCS's scaling thingy seems somewhat... tempremental. Kind of like Kazan, really :nervous:

Anyway, yes, try to use a factor of 1 (i.e make the ship the size you want it in TS) but don;t be suprised if it inexplicably turns out a different size what you were expecting. Just keep trying, it'll work eventually.

Rule of thumb for TS Scaling:

Fighters. 0.# m in each direction

Warships, you'll have to work it out and play! :)

Here is a list of trueSpace lengths and their FreeSpace equivalents (approx.)

TS: 10m            FS: 130m
TS: 18m            FS: 360m
TS: 150m          FS: 3000m

Does that help a bit? :)

so basically,
"don't worry about it untill you're ready to convert your super ship into a working model "
right ?
I wasn't aware TS had a scale display.

Right click the little arrow thingy. You know, the little white mouse arrow icon in the bottom right panel. You'll get a panel with dimensions, co-ords and orientations

My method is that I do my model in TS the size I can make it a good shape, and change the PCS scaling factor often.

I just make the ship, then use cob2fs2 to check size, poly limits etc. Only when it's all ready I run it through PCS and add all the stuff for the game!

Currently only the one I'm afraid. The rest of my modelling work is for The Swarm War and they're still undergoing a LOT of tweaking! :D

I put up an older version of the KF Harpy AAAAAAges ago, but I can't remember where!

If you're wanting a model of mine, then look no further than the GVSsD Nepthe, a Vasudan Subspace Destroyer based on an Eldar Frigate from Battlefleet Gothic. You can either pinch it from the thread further down the page, or just get it here!

Hope you like it. Incidentally, the Nepthe is 100% player flyable!!

Very easily. Get hold of PCS (loads of links to it in the FAQ) and use the pof to cob option. Converting them back to pof however can be tricky.
