:sigh: I just downloaded FSO 3.5.5. I clear all my registry settings for FS2 in regedit, run the [V] launcher followed by the newest SCP launcher (2.4), I set the video to D3D 8, any resolution and color depth, and when I try to run FSO I get an error window titled 'Error Initializing Direct3D' with no message just an OK button. The Anti-Aliasing menu in the Video section is blank and I was wondering if that could be related to my problem at all. and yes I tried to generate a Text cap file or whatever it is and it wouldn't work.
Can you he'p me out?

For the resolution, only select one that FS2 supports (1024*768, 640*480)

I know that, those are the only resolutions it will let me pick. I was just saying that both 640 x 480 and 1024 x 768 don't work.
btw, specs: PIII 866 Mhz, 256MB RAM, GeForce4 Ti 4600, Win XP

O.K. Send me an e-mail and I'll look into this as a priority.
Do you know the version number of the last launcher that worked?

Why did you clear all your registry settings anyway?
The Anti-Aliasing menu used to have options I take it?
What is the content of VideocardFs2open in the registry?

I don't know the last launcher that worked. This has been happening since fs_open_s. I think the original launcher worked fine but I'm not sure.
I cleared the registry because It's been the source of most of my recent FSO problems so I thought it would be best to try the new exe with fresh registry settings.
I used to be able to pick from 1, 2, 3, and 4 sample anti-aliasing.
VideocardFs2Open: D3D8-(1024x768)x32 bit

OK, well I'll look into this as soon as I can.
I daresay you could probably fix it by messing around with the registry but it would be much more useful to wait a day and find out whats actually gone wrong so it can be sorted out properly.

Its very interesting that the cap's doesnt work.
Also its odd because there have been no significant D3D8 changes to the launcher for several versions.

OK, this is obviously a bad build of some sort.
Will look into it tonight.

I downloaded the launcher, but same error message :(
Perhaps its a problem with FS Open and my computer more than anything else. Maybe i have the wrong version of Directx. is there any way to check this or wether i have the min requirements to run the .exes?

Singh: That was a reply to redmenace, its just the same launcher.
My launcher should say if you dont have DX8.1 installed.

I've not made any real changes of the DX stuff in a while so I'm not sure whats going on.
