I posted this in another thread here at the VWBB, but since it's been quiet as of late, maybe you could take a stab at it:

In a mission briefing I'm trying to correct, the view jerks around rather viciously when moving from the first to second stage (and back again).  It rarely--well, never manages to hit the mark I saved.

I was thinking about this just now, and could it have something to do with the view being zoomed out pretty far?  I've never had something like this happen before, and that's the only possibile reason I can think of.

Initial camera position is [280, 21610, 16], straight down; transitions to [12, 11064, 20790], 45ยบ perspective.

That sounds like the best explanation, since from your numbers it looks like the camera has to move around for pretty large distances. I haven't really seen briefings where the camera has to move more than a few thousand meters. What I usually do in my missions is to keep all of my icon screens in a straight line, so while designing a mission the view can simply be zoomed in and out to get the correct stage.

BTW your name is from Deus Ex, right? I just love that game...

I'm sat in my sedimentology lecture yesterday morning, half-asleep as usual, and the new lecturer walks in and indtroduces himself as Paul Denton. I fell off my chair, though in retrospect its not really an unreasonable name... still, I stand by my WTF reaction.

Hmm, and even after zooming the view in significantly (by a power of 10), it still goes completely bonkers.  Someone at VW suggested that I set the camera transition time up to 2500-3000.  I did, and it helped, but the camera now moves slower than I intended.

And yeah, I, uhm, borrowed JC's name for my own.

A professor named Paul Denton?!  Next I'll find out about a dentist named Joseph Manderley  ;)
