Rotating Submodels in Tech Room
If it's possible, would we like to activate rotating submodels in the tech room?

Go open the Isis in Modelview and chuck on Rotating submodels. I don't know if there are any other models tht need to be fixed like that, but personlly I'd like to see everything stay still

Don't see the point. Turrets and especially their barrels spinning round 360 degrees would look stupid, unless this could be coded around.

What would be sweet is if we could have the ship in question be in simulated combat.   Guns blazing at random target points so we could get a feal for the thing before we have to go pull it out of the fire or what ever outher deathtrap it wanders into.   Probly use a togle to swich between static and combat modes.

as an unrelated note I am realy happy with the qucik reply, 28.8Kbps modem.

That would be interesting... like tell them to fire at another phantom ship foo screen, while rotating verry slowly, so you can see all the turrets in action, and know where weakpoints might be...

Actually I was just thinking of the sort of submodels that rotate while at rest; solar panels, sensor arrays, gas collectors, radar dishes. You know?
Turrets would remain in their default position (until/unless coders randomize idle turret movements in the future.)

I like terren's I idea, is that even possible though?

Rotating submodels sound fine, but having the gun turrets fire seems a bit much IMHO. How about having an option to highlight the different parts of a ship in a color? (ie turrets would be red, engines blue, etc.)

Hippo you got it exactly how I intended, a chance to look at the ship in action without having to dodge flak.  give us stratadgy buffs a chance to plan our attacks insted of having to fly by the seat of our pants so often.  I know I'd use it, if just for a chance to see some of my ships in action.

If this is feasible, I'd like to see multiple attack locations, preferably in 2 types: fighter and capital.

Backtracking a little here...

Can we have a coder assess this? (The rotating submodel in the tech room idea, not anything to do with turrets.)

Speaking of which. Guys, you have to learn some self-control... if someone's asking for something nice, neat, and relatively simple, please don't clutter it up speculating on horribly complicated and controversial changes. Right now all I want is for solar panels to rotate in the tech room, OK? Idle turret animations are something else altogether and I don't want the original idea to get buried under unlikely requests.

sry galacticemperor, but you have to admit it would be cool to see it like terren described.

and sry to the rest of you all but galacticeperor is right first we need the original idea, then later if it is even possible we can make it more advanced.

Well I personally would not like to see the guns firing all over the place if the tech room stays like it is.  As for passive rotating things, yes absolutely.  Use the rotation code from the game.  That'll keep turrets where they should be.  However, if you get turrets tracking and firing junk all over the place, along with the relatively fast spinning that is already there, you'd have a mess that's hard to watch.

What GE said.
