[EDIT]Anyone know were I can find bump maps for the Orion? I'll make my own if I must.

Well the idea is really cool, but I would suggest a few things.

  • Reduce the motion blur, or reverse it so that you are focused on the fighters.  They are your subject, so they should be somewhat sharper, if not crisp.
  • Change the angle.  You're looking right in to the fighterbay on that Orion, a feature that was never modeled out to be as good as it could have been.  As a render, you should change the angle of the shot to hide that feature, change the texture back there to something that looks like it could launch fighters, or model out a basic flight deck, similar to what you saw in the Bastion main hall in FS1.
  • Your Orion is backwards.  Mirror it along its center line (or just horozontally flip the image when you are done).  Common conversion error, though I couldn't begin to tell you what causes it.


And you may try a less cartoony starfield, where the stars are within a few pixels.  That may look ok on a 640x480, but you blow that pic up and you've got major issues with the stars.

/me remembers his _really_ old render...

Shows what good bump mapping, surface properties, and lighting can do :) I had forgotten to flip the orion around though.

change the angle of the apollos a bit, this way it looks like there bumping into the deck. also, i remember the fighters being bigger, or the bay being smaller.

and i liked it better angeld at the bay and without the laser thingys, if at all possible, make a real fighterbay.

I know it's a technical limitation with the game itself, but the Orion can only launch 2 fighters at a go.

It can launch 4 at a time, but only in rows of 2, not 4 wide... So two rows of 2 fighters come out in a square...

I'd really like to see a modeled fighterbay... That would look incredible...
