Well I thought about it and when i wrote mi campaign story...this is what I came up!:
First of all old designs such as the Sobeck corvette could still be very useful(the campaign takes place some 50 years after Cappella)..althogh they would be inefective against even the new class of corvettes..they would prouve very useful as armed transports..!
A Sobeck corvette and even the old Deimos...striped of most of theyr wepons...leave some AAAf beams...and one beam cannon..even if its a slash...put a wing or two of interceptors on it and the remaining space fill it up with suplies for the fleets spare parts pilots wepons..stuff like that there and there u have it a veri fast very usefull supply ship or transport..wich can bring more suplies for a fleet then eny standard transport could ever hope..to bring..!
Some of them are used for taking down juggerbauts..pake it full with explosives..jump it next to a Sathany and let it ram the sucker...that would make a diference..I bet..
Most of them are decomisioned but some of them are still used as I stated above..and lets not forget the old Hecate and the very old Orion some of then were kept in service like the Aquitane for morale resons most of all....but even these very old ships cand realy do some damage with new anti-matter engines and beams..and with new nano-tehnological hull..these things can take a beating..!
They would be slower and incredibly hard to manuver but when you need to ram through Shivan defensives..and lets not forget the new more powerfull then even the shivans enemy the GTVF manages to make..they sure as hell need these big bois..!
note:GTVF stands for GRAND TERRAN VASSUDAN FEDERATION..upgrade of the old GTVA.
