I like to evaluate a game before I buy it so I don't have to go through the hassle of going back to the store for my money (I am very pcky about my games).

   I bought cataclysm and was less than impressed. I had much higher expectations for homeworld2. Was it just becase it was the demo, or does it get better later on? (not meant to be a rag on it, just an honest question)..

They do have some intersting looking ships though, and I'd like to know if anyone is doing a homewrold2 to FS2 mod or conversion...

Star Dragon, don't waste your money if you didn't like the demo.  It had a lot of potential from the first two levels, but it went completely unrecognised throughout the campaign.  The designers had some plan, but they completely failed to make it make sense.

Shouldn't be difficult to port the HW2 ships into FS2. They're already available in textured LW format, so anyone should be able to get started modding them.

IS tha within the main game or how do I go about it, I downloaded teh relic tools but I have no idea how to use them. Unfortunately they mentioned something along the lines of needing 3dsmax I think...

Unfortunately it isn't needing 3ds max, it's needing MAYA 3, which you can't even get anymore.  Unless Relic re-did their tools...

Err? Those aren't FS shots... How is it HW to FS?  Am I missing something?

That's never been really clear to me... either you are converting Homeworld2 into Freespace, or you are porting Freespace ships to Homeworld2.  Both ways make perfect sense to me, and there's no question which game engine produced those shots.

The HW2 ships are available (most of them) are available on the web as textured LWOs. Just do a web search, and you'll find them.

Seriously, though, those screenshots were kick-ass cool.

My brother just bought his copy of HW2 (at my behest, of course :D) and I saw him play through the first two missions. But when I left his house, he had failed to save the shipyard on the second mission. Ah, well, he'll improve his performance. :)

Besides, I had to get home and install my just-bought copy of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Which reminds me, I better get to  the Hard Light forum for my troubleshooting question...

This thread may now resume its previous topic of way-cool HW2 mod screensots. :D

HW2 is not ground breaking. The question is what disappointed you about Cataclysm? If you were looking for a breakthrough, you won't find in HW2.

In any case, mods take time to finish, so maybe by the time it's out you could get the game for a lower price.
Long time ago, you see, there was this thing called the VBB and... oh, nevermind.
