I've got a minor problem with my copy of the latest release (downloaded yesterday, 14th).

The text alongside the lighty-up-bits in places like the techroom, etc. (the bits that identify the buttons) have a tendancy to vanish at random intervals.  They return soon thereafter.

Slightly more worrying is the fact that my HUD is displaying the same behaviour (interestingly, only from 1st person).  It too returns after a short time, or when I fire a weapon.

Knowing my computer, this is probably something unique, but I thought you'd better know.

System:
Athlon XP 1600
384Mb DDR
64Mb GeForce4 MX440
Recent nVidia drivers
Win 98 SE.

What video settings are you uising? Launch the launcher and make a screenshot from the 'Video' tab. That would be more helpful.

Could try enabling the GF3 fix if you haven't already.  Just a shot in the dark, though.

Sorry, forgot that lot.

DX8
640X480X16 (My system was starting to creak unter the new lighting system)
No anti-aliasing.
The GF fix is active, large textures aren't.

Have you tried it without GF fix?

[EDIT] I suggest you to try OpenGL, of course only if your card supports it. I have GeF4 MX440 as well, but maybe yours is supporting it. I tried OpenGL, but the DX8 was better.

My card almost supports OpenGL.  I can play one mission, but then I have to restart my computer before I try another in order to avoid a rather significant crash.

Or turning on AA? That helps sometimes for me, but only when it comes to test fuziness.
Long time ago, you see, there was this thing called the VBB and... oh, nevermind.

What windows desktop settings are you using? 32-bit made my FS_Retail to crash once(So imagine what it could do with FSO), maybe the problem might be that.

Well, I've got the Inferno build now, but t has the same problem.  I've narrowed it down, though.

It seems this bit of wierdness only occurs when the game is displaying an object (i.e. the rotating fighter in the techroom or a ship in a mission) - although that object doesn't have to be onscreen.  It is still a first-person only bug, but with the Inferno code it is only the radar and the green backgroung to the target box that vanish.

And I still don't have a bloody clue what's going on.  Perhaps this is a god excuse for a new graphics card?

Try to use more informative thread titles in the future, m'kay? ESPECIALLY when asking for help.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I normally do, (I think) I was just wallowing in confusion at the time.

The current INF build has bugs in it and is very old, the same thing happens to me during missions, but only with that build.
