Nodewars: Back to Basics
Nodewars is back to its old self. I know many of you had issues with a lot of the previous nodewar iterations, and most of that has been taken into account.
Zeronet came up with the idea, but we need more people.

Are you an avid storyteller, a writer, an artist in the literary genre?
We need YOU.

You can once again control nations, or you can be an individual. Have your own say. No Hammerli this, Hammerli that. The game will begin just after the V-T war ends.
There are Terrans, Vasudans, and the Nvari (pseudo-shivans). Zeronet's word is that the Nvari won't be all-out warring anyone, so don't get too uppity about that. Also, all battle outcomes will be moderator-decided: so don't be worried about getting flattened by anyone else either.

So, anyway, yeah. Take Nodewars, press the reset button, and you've got Nodewars - Back to Basics. Trust me, it's going to be one hell of a lot more fun.

Catch it here, under "Nodewar: Back to Basics":

You wouldn't want to be square now, would you?

Its much more moderation based, which is good. Its good. :D
Got Ether?

I tried NodeWars 3 and wasn't happy with the experience.  Plus, even then, I wasnt much for writing 2 pages a day in useless dribble to further my own little plot.  Why should I have to put forth effort to play a game on a device designed to reduce the amount of effort one puts forth.   HotsnoJ had something better in the works but it fell apart before anyone could play.

If you don't like writing, naturally you won't like Nodewars. Nodewars is writing. You can't knock it for that...
And really, is a computer designed to reduce effort? Not as much as a calculator. A computer does one hell of a lot of stuff, of which doing complicated calculations is only one. I don't mean to be insultful or anything, but if you only try things that require no effort on your part, you're going to miss one hell of a lot in the world.

Oh, and the more people we get, the less effort each person will need to put in to keep the ball rolling ^_^

Actually NW wasn't really designed to reduce effort, it was often bogged up in lots of crap. The latest one actually was (NW4), with the removal of a bunch of stuff we didn't like. Though it flopped 'cause the players didn't like player based stories...

I'm thinking of (very tentatively) making an NW spin-off (or NW5) that'll be semi-automated, to make it purely story and idea for the player.
Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman

Personally, I really enjoyed NW when it was hosted here, then... something happened... :nervous:

Don't forget, you can post community news about this yourselves.

As a note on the kinds of writing that you might do, for LOE (another similar story) I wrote on the order of 250 pages in the last 13 months.
WE ARE HARD LIGHT PRODUCTIONS. YOU WILL LOWER YOUR FIREWALLS AND SURRENDER YOUR KEYBOARDS. WE WILL ADD YOUR INTELLECTUAL AND VERNACULAR DISTINCTIVENESS TO OUR OWN. YOUR FORUMS WILL ADAPT TO SERVICE US. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

if you do however have a life, i did about a page per week, or half a page when i had too moch homework.

And a page really isn't too much when it's something you want to write about. Unlike dumb English exams where you get no choice. This is fun writing ^_^
And you could also, if you're lucky/manipulative enough, substitute it instead of English coursework! :p ...Well, maybe not...

Bottom line: you don't have to write a huge amount, and the more people we get, the less you have to write to further the overall storyline.

Jesus, I'm not surprised no-one cares, you guys are pessimistic as hell.

You're just sat there defending against the 'faults' of the game. Yes, you have to write stories; It's a story-based game. Yes, it takes up some time; As does modding and/or playing FS. No, I do not **** with people's stuff (be it files on the server or their profile) unless they're abusing people or the forum/game rules; Ask KT or Thor or DragonClaw or anyone.

Now, let's look at the positive:

  • It's basically a free universe. As long as your guys are acting realistically and have some motivation for their actions (and they remain within the bounds of NW physics), you can have them do what they like.
  • This version actually has moderation, which means unlike NW3 (and NW2 to an extent) you won't end up with a coalition of 7 powerful factions working their way across the galaxy and annihilating everyone in their path. Then another coalition forming and committing mass genocide on the other guys before turning on each other and depopulating the galaxy.
  • There are now 2 flavours of NW:-  Ace's Terran-Vasudan War setting and Zeronet's which is kinda an alternate NW2/3 from what I gather.
  • The physics of the two are basically FS1 and a super-charged FS2 respectively.
  • Ace's version offers more freedom and less of an overall story-arc, allowing people to shape the universe with their military might.
  • While Zeronet's version has an overall story-arc which gives the story more direction and sense of purpose. So you can pick whichever one suits you.
  • Guaranteed: Joining NW will make you more attractive to women and increase your life-span (Note: Not an actual guarantee)
So go join up and.....err.....Y'know.......

Oh and I'm adding a Random Stories forum so you can post non-NW stories and get critique'd by our administrative staff of apes and upper-echelon monkeys.

Pretty much it's time for my post :-)

The V-T war aims for a different game then Zeronet's "Back to the Basics."

The V-T war focuses on epic battles and combat, and the player's shaping the future.

The war does have large factions, but players compete and betray one another for resources in them as well as to be on top.

Pretty much the focus is to avoid crap story posts, as everything is directed towards the main game. (Player versus player combat)

Despite all of the combat, it is actually based on the story writing as opposed to a complex ruleset, like what Kamikazie mentioned in his idea.

Think of the big classic space opera stories like the Lensman series and you'll see what I mean.

Hey, stop hijacking my pimpage thread :p
Well, anyway, yeah. The V-T war and BTB are two very different Nodewars, and each has its merits. Neither are particularly story-based beyond background, so it's pretty much up to you what happens - less arguments that way, mm?

:wtf: Umm...are you refering to my 3D node map? It wasn't a game it was an attemp at making a 3D node map that you could zoom in and out, rotate around, and all that. It was put on hold because some features I needed aren't/weren't supported by the Blender game engine.
I have big plans, now if only I could see them through.
