I think it the herc has a nice edge to it.
I can't believe my profile is still active... member since  July 25, 2002

You know what?  If the front part of this fighter wasn't so thin and narrow and instead was bulky and featured missile points, this would be a Herc.  As it stands right now, it's a cross between the perseus and the erynies.  A beautiful hybrid, but not a herc =\

I disagree totally. Where is it written that the Herc designers could not decide to take a new design approach with it's successor? They most certainly could and that happens in weapons design in the real world all the time.

It is a Herc because the designer has decided that is what it is. It may have a twist on the old design philosophy, but it is not for us to decide what it is and isn't.
The Lurker Extreme

To study and not think is a waste, but to think and not study is dangerous.

Hands off me haggis!!

Thank you for many replies.
I can understand following opinion. I think it may be right from audience's view.

Herc family must be bulky. Hamano's Herc3 looks non-Bulky. It will not be a Herc family.

However, let me write some my thought from creator's side.
When I developped my herc3, I planned to reduce weak points of Herc2 and give someting changed.
Low speed and less guns are Herc2's weakpoints, so I increased speed and guns in Herc3.
However, only increasing makes invulnerable fighter.
I decided to make some weakpoints for gaming balance.
Missile capacity is reduced from this, but still 160% of Erinyes.
It is reduced but still high, I think Herc3 is in heavy assault category.

For exterior, Herc is boxy, Herc2 is roundy, Herc3 has edges, they all are different.
Herc2 already has Ares as a variation, so I decided to make a big difference between Herc2 and Herc3.
I hope that you feel some technical progress for difference between shapes of Herc2 and Herc3.

One more thing.
I have developped my Herc3 as advanced Ares, based on the design of Ares.
Herc3 looks non-bulky, but basic design of Herc3 is the same as Ares.

According to this, I think that my Herc3 can be placed in position of a direct descendant of Herc2 and Ares.
After seeing this comparison, you may feel Herc3 more hercy.(^_^)

Well, Hamano, I've gotta say - in light of that, I think your Herc 3 is ten times more thought out than most of the fighter designs out there presently. I'll definitely enjoy flying her. :)
- Eddie Kent Woo, Setekh, Steak (of Steaks), AWACS. Seriously, just pick one.

THE HARD LIGHT ARRAY. Always makes you say wow.

He thinks just the way I like :)
On the Hrc 3, I don't have any grips, just a little something I would have made differently: on the body ( red part ), I would have make the back shorter, so it ends halfway between the engine pods ( green parts ). That would stress more the multipart design IMHO.
But, just like TangBoy, I can only like that ship, being biaised by being an anime fanboy :p

Hamano you need to be doing this professionally. :D
You really did a good job at reasoning through your design (and that latest image you posted shows just how much thought you put into it). Excellent work.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

Hmm... yes, I'll inspire myself a bit on the Alves, but mine will be more an Erynies successor looking ship, that fits with the rest of the more smoothed next gen GTVA ships... the concpet is done already :)
Yeah, I know you were waiting for a very nice sig, in which I was quoting some very famous scientist or philosopher... guess what?!? I wont indulge you...

Why, you ask? What, do I look like a Shivan to you?!?
