My monitor is finally on its way out. It keeps on clicking and the picture jumps about. Time to fork out some cash to get a new one I reckon.

I'm looking to spend £100-200 (hopefully more towards the £100). Anyone got any advise on what to seek and avoid?

Would like res to be at least 1280x1024

yeah a few days ago i decided that for the next month (maybe a little more or less) i'm going to be spending all my extra cash on building a computer, the first 100% MY computer (no one else will have acess to it)...  not going to be extremely good or extremely expensive... and i'm trying to find a good monitor too.  Ebay seems the best place, i've bought two monitors off Ebay in the last 5 years

You tried de-gausing/discharging it?

What does that mean?
It used to click once an hour but now its well on the way to once per minute.

There is De-magnetizer in CRT monitors that remove any magnetic and electric buildup. I doubt that would be the problem though since that automatically triggers every time you turn the monitor on.

NEC are good monitors, and you can get a 17in flat  CRT that'll run at 1280x1024@66Hz with a .21dp for 230 CAD (~£110).

so if you are willing to reach all the way up to 200, then you may as well go for a 19in. You'll get a better refresh rate at 1280x1024. though make sure it has a good dp (at least .22dp).

Viewsonic is decent as well, and a bit less expensive.

I've got a Trinitron, and while the picture is great, the price is just too much for the Sony.

Right now, I'd probably buy a NEC if I had to get a new monitor. But it really depends on your needs/wants.

I'd go for a 19in CRT nowadays.

I've got an AOC and their pretty good and not really so expensive.  One thing you might consider, check your local computer shops and Big Box retailers and see if they have any Factory Remanufactured monitors with a guarantee.  You can save a few bones that way and possibly get a better monitor than you could "new".

I personally use CTL. I don't know if you can find them in Europe though.
