Alright, more questions from me  For some reason some of my messages aren't coming out and I can't figure out why.  Mind you, I'm at work right now so I'm working off of memory (in regards to actual sexp names)

The first one is supposed to happen a few seconds after you get in the mission.  I have it set up as:

When
-has arrived delay
-5
-Alpha 1
    -send message
    -GTD Blah
    -High
    -(message)

But it never shows up  I then have other messages that should be going off a few seconds after as that original message as it begins a discussion between wingmen.  They are set exactly the same, except that the arrival delay is at 10, 15, and 20 for each message (besides also changing the wingmen and message).

Why aren't they showing up?  Obviously that sexp should come true cuz Alpha 1 is playing the mission.

I have other messages that should be going off when a wing reaches a waypoint, but they're not showing up either.

Can you guys help me with this?  Am I doing messages wrong?  Other ones work fine.

Any idea or help?

That would be because Alpha 1, player newer arrives in mission, but mission starts when player enters in it, so player is already in beginning.

Try this one instead:
-has-time-elapsed
-5
-send message
-GTD Blah
-High
-(message)

I'll try that tonight, thanks Miburi!  It sounds like it should work.

What about my other problem?  I have Alpha 2 as the leader of Alpha Wing, and I have Alpha wing going to Waypoint 1.  At Waypoint 1, Alpha 2 is supposed to send a message.  I have the following as the sexp:

Are waypoints done delay
Waypoint 1
5 (being the delay)
Alpha (doesn't matter if I put the wing, Alpha 2,Alpha 3, or Alpha 4)
send message
Alpha 2
High
(message)

It just won't work.

Perhaps you should have it as a distance check to the waypoint (say, 100m or so) instead of the actual waypoint. The way it's set up currently,  the center of the ship has to be right on top of the waypoint for it to trigger. This way the wing only has to be near the waypoint, not right on top of it.

My distance sexp never is un-gray (if that's an explanation) for me to pick it.  That's what I originally wanted to do but it's gray'd out so I picked the waypoint one.

Am I supposed to use the distance sexp in a certain way for it to come out?

Actually, GE, I've wanted to use that distance sexp for a dozen reasons but I can never seem to use it.


EDIT: Wait, am I supposed to put that less than or greater sign (or equal I guess) before the distance sexp?  Is that why it's not showing up?

distance is nearly always a case of less than or more than. Don't touch "equal", it's a little fussy.

Must have typed that when I was editing, Magatsu1.  Thank you for confirming that!  I had gone thru the sexp thread and saw someone do a distance from subsystem example and got me thinking that maybe that's what I had to do.

I'll work on it at home.  Hopefully that will be 2 missions down!

Get hosting, swooh, or other... Get an FTP client, WS_ftp and FTP_Explorer are good ones, take a screenshot while looking at the event, paste it into paint, crop everything unneeded, upload to hosted acount...

or just make a screenshot, or a few, put them all in a zip, email them to me with HLP in the subject, and see 'em posted here.
