Those crazy britAussie (sorry) boffins. They have nothing to do but see how the Starship Enterprise fares at MACH 5.

I figure since some of you are big Star Trek and/or FryingPansInSpace fans... ;)
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

That's kind of funny.
So as through a glass, and darkly
The age long strife I see
Where I fought in many guises,
Many names, but always me.

There are only 10 types of people in the world , those that understand binary and those that don't.

In other news, in X-Plane I put my P-51 Mustang at 400'000 feet and waited... It actually survived the re-entry but smacked in to the ground at about mach 6

A P-51 wouldn't withstand Mach 1 and could NEVER reach 400,000 feet.

Honestly, I think a good quarter of Woolie's posts came from someone else ;)
Or do you mean statements of the absurdly obvious... not that it matters :nervous:

That is not entirely accurate... It is unproven but highly suspected that the P-51 was the first aircraft to break the sound barrier.  There are photos/videos of high-speed dives in WW-II in which shockwaves formed around the wings of P51's, and a couple of incidents that seem like sonic booms (though in a continental war, that isn't saying much).  Trouble is, now that the record is important, all the P51s in the world are too valuable to risk in such a test.

I honestly don't remember where I heard it... maybe Air&Space?  That seems like a likely candidate, but I can't say for sure.

Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

You gotta give us credit, we think of the best experiments. :D

But the Enterprise isn't designed to enter an atmosphere??

But didn't it wind up in the Atmosphere in Tomorrow is Yesterday (I think that's what the ep's called) when it went back to 1969?

Sure, anything can go supersonic with enough power.  Might disentegrate quite quickly, but thats a minor side effect.

I get to do computation fluid dynamics as part of my university course.  Maybee i'll spend some computing time on the Enterprise :D
