I JUST GOT A WHIM OF THE THREAD I STARTED and i didnt think it woulda gone this far. but YEA, the FL guys always import ships and such, also with MICROSOFT BEGINING TO SUE THE 3RD PARTY WEBHOSTERS WHO MAKE MODS, this stealing of ships is blaphosmy to the fullest of the words meaning. When we convert ships to FS2 or wherever the modder is responcible to state where he/ she got the MESH from, this guy from STAR FYRE studios did not. in my opinion, its not something to be overly upset with, but it would have made more sense and shown more decency from this person to atleast acknowledge his "influence" from Freespace.

when some guy a while back made a terran cruiser in FS2, it looked so RHIENLANDISH that right off the back as soon as he was cited for it, said "my influences were from the rheinland design". being as how we as a community are trying our best to make a legend return to livilyhood really should cite this guy simply because (although with the source code being debut and we cant persay scream on him for converting the ship) we invested much of our days and teenagerhood to a genre and game that means to us as gamers and artists, as well as the developers who made the original models in the first place. it is an insult to claim that fighter as his own and to take credit for it as if someone would not notice (which is commonly done online).

i personally love FL to death as much as FS2, but the stealing and such of ideas and ideals and such is of the upmost disrespect to Volition and us.


BTW to those who state that the ship just happens to look just like a manticore, for the record, its almost a 97% carbon copy of her. compare both photos and you will see that its an entire rip job of the Manticore. god forbid if it was one of Venoms OTT ships or Darks masterpieces, and they didnt get credit or acknoledgement that they are from the still EXISITING FS universe, i promise you everyone would see eye to eye on this as it is theft of creativity and plagerism at its worse.

i somewhat forgot to put this in before, if credit was given, it wasnt posted directly inview for me or anyone to know. if it had ot be searched persay, than its still held accountable.

if credit was given and so forth than alright, thats peace, that makes me feel better. and i noticed some guys actually started brainstorming off of this, so im glad to a degree this grew into something beyond a flaming thread.

LIke i said before, when i first started working on the model, and showed a WIP picture of it, i gave credits and acknowledged that it was manticore inspired. As i said before if YOU are going to damn me for actaully MODELLING the damned thing, damn the retard who did nothing but rip and tear at least 10 models from the game and made it SEEM as if they were made by him. If you want i can probably find the public places i posted teh credits, unless they have been cleaned from the forums.

as i said previously, when i calmed down and realized i almost started a forum invasion, that im giving the benefit of the doubt here, if u say you did, im giving u the benefit, so its apeased. i'll take your word for it, as has most of us. im peace now, but yea we have attempted to port so freelancer ships our way and vice versa, only prob is Microsoft is on a lawsuit mission to u modders of freelancer... theyre probing the websites for modders... so be careful.

BTW might I suggest a moderator rename this thread or something? since the issue is now over... to something like, i dunno u guys r creative enough...................

MS, that whole "lawsuit" incident proved to be a hoax.  It was against the mod that the Manticore MkII was going into, wasn't it?  At any rate, it's not anything to worry about.

Yes, the Email was hoax and now we actaully ahve someone from micorsoft legal in constant contact with us to make sure it hasnt happened again. The fact that someone who had close contacts in Digital Anvil siad that the developer actually thought the mod was cool said something.
