It's not so much that I have a problem with. I can live with the queen surviving for short periods in space and since the Landing gear was pulled up she would have had almost as much protection as Ripley and Bishop did.
What I have a problem with is the way they basically ignored the fact that Ripley blew up the queens Ovipositor and then took out most of the eggs. So the question is where did the face huggers come from? The queen couldn't have laid them in the ship herself.

At no point did we see the Alien Queen carrying a pair of face huggers or eggs, so we're left with them running after Ripley, catching the lift with the queen up to the gantry where Bishop was going to meet Ripley, managing to get on board the dropship alongside the queen and then hiding while Ripley fought and killed the queen. Even after doing that they don't immediately go after Ripley but somehow know to wait until she put herself in hypersleep.

Y'know, maybe the face-huggers saw the drop-ship and just jumped aboard as soon as it got within jumping distance. They coulda got on waaaay before Ripley did.

And then there's the possibility that the Queen keeps a few latched onto her so she can muster up some guards if she's ever trapped alone somewhere and under attack.

It could even be that the Queen injected Ripley and Newt/Bishop with an Alien directly and the fire that resulted in them ending up at the penal colony was the result of an alien bursting outta someone and scurrying around.

And Ripley failed to notice that she was injected by the alien Queen? Besides if the queen can directly inject Alien Embryos into people what's with all this egg laying anyway?

If the queen does have face huggers attached wouldn't it have been smarter to send them after Newt while she was fighting against Ripley? Hell, why not send them after Ripley. In that powersuit she wouldn't have been able to move quickly enough to avoid being implanted.

I'm not saying that having facehuggers on the ship was impossible A clever writer could have found a way to get around the problem. What annoyed me about the movie was that the writers obviously just said "Hey! Lets say that some facehuggers got onto their ship." and didn't bother to actually come up with an explaination thinking that most of their audience would be too stupid to notice.

Pretty much the same is true of the basic premise for Alien 4 too. If Ripley is a clone then she wouldn't be Alien at all. But the writers said "Let's put Sigourney Weaver in it" and ignored the fact that books (and possibly the comics too) already had come up with a far more sensible way to achieve this.

for the face hugger, let just say that it was romaing around in the atmosphere processor, somehow jumped on the dropship. as it was outside of it, it had to face air-free environment, etc. We know from the first movie face huggers can survive extremely low temperature, w/o available oxygen, for quite some time. But that doesn't mean they can run around easily while trying not to choke. So while Ripley and the Queen are playing together, the face huggers are, well, simply sleeping. They wake up later, start searching, find the crew in hypersleep.

Additional note: the facehugger implants Newt, not Ripley, originaly. I dunnot know if the scene will be featured in the director's cut movie or has even be shot, but it was scripted: when Newt capsule is flooded with water, drowning Newt, the queen escapes Newt and goes into Ripley ( hugh! ).

I'll wait till it comes out on DVD. I can't handle scary movies on the big screen, scares the hell out of me. In a bad way. ;)

Again that doesn't make sense. At no point in the movie did you see facehuggers roaming around on the off chance that they'd come across someone to implant. In fact it's quite contrary to the way Aliens has set up the facehuggers.
No bodies were found in the colony itself because the Aliens dragged every single person over to the atmosphere processor, stuck them up against the wall and then implanted them. Also when the Aliens decided to implant Newt they had to bring an egg over to her. It seems odd to me that facehuggers would be wondering around the upper levels of the atmosphere processor and yet not be wondering around inside the nest.

I tend to think of Alien 3 & 4 as stand alone movies entirely unconnected to the first two. They works like that but any attempt to connected it to Aliens just runs into the big plot holes they've introduced.

I tend to think it'll be the later, sadly. Aliens on Earth during the current days, for me, it's a no-no, anyway.
Oh, and my geek note of the week: altho it's obvious the skull in predator2 is supposed to be a xenomorph skull, it's inacurate as the eye holes are not placed at the right place "sigh".

IIRC, he also made Event Horizon.. which was a pretty decent movie in it's own right:nod:

I kind of agree with you, you know, but the xenomorph "science" keeps evolving with the movies. In alien ( the firstb movie ), there was NO queen, they wouldn't exist. The eggs are not layed or anything: the victims of the aliens turn into eggs. There's scenes about that that WERE shot. Hold on, I'm sure I can find a pic or two.
bingo! there you go:

even have a video: http://www.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?planetavp/al/Multimedia/Video/a1cocoon.zip

In every movie, they keep adding things, w/o necessarily looking back on the stuff that was made before. The WHOLE reproduction cycle had been thought trhouht for the first movie, I have a nice painting from Giger showing it, Egyptian-painting style.

But what is cooler? A victim turning into an egg, or a huge 6-limbed creature that hatches them by the dozen? The same, to me, applies with huggers. If they're not free to roam around, what's their purpose? would be simpler for the queen to implant embryos directly into bodies. I think it serves a purpose to have some huggers running the land, finding preys that could hide or run away from the actual xenomorphs..

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Alien vs. Predator movie trailer available... hehehe
I've waited for this film since I first read the books. Now that I heard the guy who did Resident Evil is directing, my stomach lurched. Then when I heard the plot, it lurched again. Then when I saw the featurette... It didn't lurch, but it kind of grumbled. Ok, cool looking Krull flying Glave thing. But come on!!! TEENAGE PREDATORS?! GOING TO ANTARCTICA WITH AN AZTEC TEMPLE? Huh? Ok, aztecs were olnly around for what? 500-1000 years before the spanish arrived. So how the hell did they manage to dig a temple into the ice? And there was ice there a thousand years ago. Ok, that aside, which isn't really a big deal, why the hell bring an egyptologist? Oh well, I don't really care anymore for plot. If the action is good, the dialogue modest, and the predators given at least a "friendly" sort of light as in Predator 2, then I guess I'll be happy. But who knows, maybe I'll be blown away and begin using it as a preaching example on how good films are still possible with bad plots. :D
I have returned... Again...
