Ah, then explain to me that logic. I'm curious. (for the record, I admit failing to argue with you in the Max Payne 2 thread. This time, I've learned)

Oh, sweet irony.

No, not really.

Roughnecks? I do :)
I was kindda disturbed by the fact it wasn't ased much on the movies, tho ( funnilly enough, I had no problem with the movie not using much of the book :p ).
Nah, honestly, I really like it, excepted they completly removed all the gore, and with giant insects, you NEED gore :p
The ships in Roughnecks rule, btw :) ( gotta love that dropship, the best thing since the Cheynne from Aliens :D )

By Cheyenne do you mean Sulaco? Or was that name of the actual dropship?

I understand your arguments fully ZB. It's just that I've reached the point where it's obvious that they aren't worth listening to any more.

I've taken to ignoring ZB safe in the knowledge that, should I ever meet him, I'll punch his lights out.

Yeah, the dropship, sorry about that.
To put things clear:

the sulacco is a Conestoga Class starship ( the thirteenth actually, yeah fluff :p )

the dropship is an AD4L Dropship, often called Cheyenne.
for fun:
AD4L weaponary:
1 x 25 mm gatling gun with 900 rounds
32 x 150 mm unguided rockets
12 x 70 mm unguided rockets
8 x 120 mm guided rockets
7 x AGM-220 air-to-ground missiles
3 x TSAM threat suppression missiles
3 x AIM-90 short range air-to-air missiles

I'd call that a gunship, not a dropship, but hey, that's just me :p

As far as I know, with the APC, it's the Alien vehicle with the most detailled background. Even have the engine specs and stuff.

Mik, one of the worst things? Yeah, I want to know too, Styxx.

I dislike the visual design, the hackneyed Star Trek style writing, pretty much all of the actors, etc. Everything done on SG1 was done better by Sliders and Star Trek, except the effects. The effects were done better by Babylon5.

The whole show completely fails to enthuse me. I actually like Voyager much better, and Andromeda lots and lots better and I dislike both of them. At least Voyager had Captain Proton and Andromeda had the Andromeda and Kevin Sorbo as Dillon (Yes, he actually made the show, pathetic as that sounds).

It is indeed a matter of taste, because I think more or less the opposite: the writing in SG-1 is more believable than any other sci-fi show out there - the characters seem real, and act real, their decisions are mostly logical and there's great internal continuity - as are the effects - the sets, as the characters, seem real enough (even if it's a bit strange to have either a desert or a pinewood forest in every planet out there, but that can't really be avoided), and the space scenes are as good as anything out there right now, and frankly, much better than the overly plastic and cartoonish scenes on Babylon 5...

Ah, I see the problem here. You thought we were talking about the other Stargate: SG-1. See, we're all talking about the one that's none of those things you just mentioned. Our SG-1 has talented actors, interesting characters, incredible continuity (something the reset-button-happy Trek never excelled at), a somewhat believable military hierarchy (another thing Trek never managed), plots that rarely lean on technobabble, and spaceships that don't look like they flew out of a comic book.

You really should check it out some time.

Ah, all the qualities of another series called Babylon 5, that you so happily subdued a few dozen posts earlier. Thank you. Saves me the trouble of writing.

I'm not about to read all 3 pages of this so don't rape me if it's been named already but my favorite sci fi movie has to be Event Horizon.  I would clasify it as a horror, but it was in a sci fi environment.

Babylon 5 merely had pretensions of continuity. Yes, it had this oppressively massive story arc (that got screwed up every time an actor left), but that was pretty much it. Episode-specific stuff that didn't have anything to do with the Great Arc tended to be forgotten. The only exception I can think of is the alien healing machine.

Effects were good for the time (if overly colorful), but to claim that they're better than SG-1, which benefits from several years of advances in CGI, is nothing short of absurd.

Another thing I like about SG-1 is that it can be funny within the context of the series. B5's attempts at humor were more often than not painfully hamfisted. I almost never felt I was watching a B5 character say something funny-- I felt like I was watching a B5 character deliver a line which JMS thought would be funny.

EDIT-- As for Diamond-G... gotta love the "I agree with what you just said about me!" comeback.

Maybe I've just walked into this movie a little late, but you fanboys need to chill. Step away from the keyboard and take a breather, that sort of thing. In, and out. In, and out.

Anyway: Farscape. I like Farscape myself. It's nice.

Yeah. That's the one I don't like.

series? most sci-fi series are crap. They all tend to shoot themselves in the foot with massive technicality and bad acting.

Movies?
1.Original Star Wars\T2
2.Aliens
[(WWF - steroids + ties - spandex) / Atomic Piledrivers] - viewing audience = C-SPAN

Aw, but it's fun baiting DG. The guy's a master of reductio ad fisticuffs. Although as you see, it does get a little boring once he starts repeating himself.

Anyway, ummm... I liked TRON. And Misfits of Science.
