Argh... how could I forgot MST? It was hilarious. Shame that I only saw the movie, but it still rocked.

Babylon 5 merely had pretensions of continuity. Yes, it had this oppressively massive story arc (that got screwed up every time an actor left), but that was pretty much it. Episode-specific stuff that didn't have anything to do with the Great Arc tended to be forgotten. The only exception I can think of is the alien healing machine.

Effects were good for the time (if overly colorful), but to claim that they're better than SG-1, which benefits from several years of advances in CGI, is nothing short of absurd.

Another thing I like about SG-1 is that it can be funny within the context of the series. B5's attempts at humor were more often than not painfully hamfisted. I almost never felt I was watching a B5 character say something funny-- I felt like I was watching a B5 character deliver a line which JMS thought would be funny.

First of all, there was about 20 standalones total, half of them in the first season.
And I can think of (with slight help from lurkers):

Adira Tyree
The Alien Healing Device
Draal
The Soul Hunters
The Parliament of Dreams
The Technomages
The Streib
Lyta Alexander (duh)
The Underground Railroad of Telepaths
The Undergrond Railroad of Narns

and others.

As for the humor, yeah, it fell flat on face sometimes, sometimes it was hilarious ("Woohoo?"), sometimes it was intentionally stupid.

Kinda like life, no?

So, if that's all you can put up, then I'm not impressed.

Patience young Zylon. If I ever catch up with you, this lot will get all the entertainment they could want

Apologies for banging the final nail in to this thread's coffin, but hands up who wants to see me punch ZB in the mouth?

I don't think I've ever actually seen Final Ride at Journey's End which is a pity cause it really does sound like a final episode.

Apparently though there was a final episode written by JMS to be made into an animated feature but it never got made. He did say that he had the script around somewhere.

BTW is it just me or was Gillian basically a prototype of the Technomages from B5.

I suppose I should mention Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. (Not my favorite sci fi, but it should be mentioned anyway :p) It failed on numerous points (plot, some of the characters looked sloppy, plot, humour, plot, character development, did I say plot?) however it was very beautiful (for the most part).

Am I the only one to like TSW plot?  Not being a FF fan helps, I guess...
My only complain is that, indeed, character development was... forgotten.
