:)
there will be, but nothing yet: we will not release individual ships, only ship packs
as soon as we feel we have enough ships, we'll release a first demo, hopefully soon

problem is that many (well, at least the most known and visible) scp graphic features are mmm useless in sw universe:
-ships are usually more plastic than metallic, so we will need very low reflective shinemaps
-glowmaps are useful only for r2d2 lights and windows on the capships (but I'd like to use em in addition with animated textures/glowmaps to have some windows periodically blinking)
-sw ships have very small engine trails(if not at all)
All this stuff will surely enrich the gaming experience with the SW conversion, but will not be so evident like in the other mods.
And personally I consider HT&L and z-buffer much much more important for our purposes.

We're also using some of the less famous additions. The mod wouldn't be proper Star Wars without the Disruption tag, for example, to emulate ion cannons. I've no doubt we'll also be using other things as they come along, but the great thing about doing a SW FS2 TC is that the universes are actually relatively similar - capships are faster, but SW weapons can be emulated by FS weapons perfectly well, the physics we see in SW doesn't appear to be any more newtonian that that used in FS - the basic FS package has a lot of what we need in itt.

However, as Karma said, we're reeeally grateful you guys implemented HT&L. And fixed all the horrendous clipping.

I have written an article about how difficult comparing two universes are. Remember?

I think what the difference between FS and XWA engines are(I am ignoring the universes themselves here) can make our mod unique, not simply an X-Wing Alliance for FreeSpace. Just think about subsystems handling, or nebula background effects, and so forth. There are things | would find better not to change(of course I am not a project leader, so it is only a personnal subjective opinion.)

well, honestly the only main difference that can't be solved/bypassed between the 2 game engines is just how the fighters rotate: in fs2 the ships turn in a predefined amount of time, no matter the speed, in xwa-xvt the rotation time depend by the engine output. This is a bit important, since it affect gameplay and could be a major issue for multiplayer.

Other minor differences are how ships hyper out and in(but it is only a graphic effect), the AI (wich isn't a problem), the possibility to track down and destroy any warehead class, the warehead AI, collisions. But they all are really minor issues.
Oh and there are also all the beam types. Some can be simulated (stealth), some other not, but since I'm a purist I really never liked beams, so I'm not going to cry for them.
Most of the other differences doesn't exists anymore: in SW ships are far smaller, but with the zoom this isn't a problem anymore; virtual shields can be setted for capships (althought without graphic effects); we have system disruptors simulating ion shots(wich is probably better than how official games handled them).

I would think to begin with we would literally want a SW mod for FS2, using FS2 physics and AI regardless of how ships move in XWA, which I should note is not how they move in the movies either, which isn't entirely self-consistent, and is different from other games and official sources besides. So you make the ships, you arm them, you give them some reasonable speeds and shielding, and then balance. Anything else I think you ought to call release two.

The same I had already told: There MUST be some things in FS left, to make it well playable for those players, who never liked the speed/maneuveriblity conjugtion thingy, or the power management system. And I could continue this serie till I have mood to do so.

the speed/energy thing has a reason in order to produce a set of complex combinations, that are extremely important in multiplayer, in order to create many possibilities that can be used to gain an edge against your enemy.
without afterburners  the actual fs2 system could lead to an infinite serie of boring maneuvres.
This is (and the fact  that I'm an old xvt player) why I consider this issue (or any other alternative) a bit important:)
important but not urgent, we have things more important first...like making models:p
