Configuring Firewall for Halo
I have Norton Internet Security 2002 and Halo (demo) is really a pain in the ass. It makes 10 zillion connections for every button i click. What is the best configuration? Which ports should be allowed and which should be blocked? What computers allowed or blocked?
Please help

The best solution is to uninstall Halo and go play something good.

You could disable the Firewall while you are playing, and re-enable it when you have finished. It's a quick-fix, but it would work :)

If you open ports to play Halo, people can get you anyway.

You might as well just rip the whole thing down and put it back up when yer finished.

Dude, you're openly admitting to liking Halo. If that doesn't leave you open to attack I don't know what does.

Chances of you being attacked when your firewall is down are still extremely low...

I think a lot of Firewall and Virusscan companies overplay the threat in order to sell more products. I don't know enough about networking to state as fact, but I would suspect that Virus' are only a risk if you are downloading from unconfirmed sources, though it is ALWAYS adviseable to have a Virus Scan. Firewalls, however are a bit of a source of confusion for me, most home users are only really going to be attacked in the manner of having your computer used to attack another, larger one for a Denial of Service. But I was under the impression that in order to do this, a virus would have to be installed on your computer, which is activated by a signal from the attacker? So having just a Virusscan would, in many cases, provide sufficient security?

Halo PC is a travesty. Halo Xbox is sublime.

Bought, uh, nooo, but I do own it. I feel I'm obliged considering I spent £400 on an xbox just for Halo.

It's a sloppy port of a good game, same with GTA3 PC, but that wasn't so bad because the game still played well.

Halo PC has weird controls, they are way too sluggish even with the senstivity up full and as for framerate problems, less said about them the better.

It's a god damn shame too cause Halo muliplayer is like second on my list of favourite things to do, after masturbation natch.

you never did read any of the tweakdge guides released by bungie did you.....
your problems would be solved if you:
Turned off mouse acceleration and you turned of shaders. only a few simple command line functions....

I've done both, I have initiative enough to find help when I think something is wrong with a game. Pixel shaders aren't even on on multiplayer and it still runs like crap.

What I mean with the controls is that they are too slow, not slow to react, just sluggish and horrible compared to how sharp and precise I find them on the Xbox.

It's not like I'm taking pot shots at Halo, I love the game, it is as I said however, a very sloppy port. I'm dissapointed to say the least.

I think the problem is that it is a port and not a conversion, I get really fed up when a game tries to etll me that a GeForce 4 MX 440, as average as it is, cannot handle Specular or Reflection mapping :/ I've played UT2003 and Citizen Kabuto, and oh yes it does!

really, the shaders in Halo are quite advanced; the sheer number of them in HALO makes a load a little to heavy for anything but the most advanced cards. my slightly above average Radeon 9000 can barely render all the shaders cramed into the game.

Hmmm... I've don't even mind playing on reduced shader levels but theres something taunting about those two greyed out boxes saying 'Specular' and 'Reflections', as though it says..... 'You're not good enough, and nor is your card, Love Microsoft'.
