I don't like to start new threads regarding trivial stuff like this, but since the original thread got closed before I could even look or reply to it, here goes:

First of all, this is an old model (but now it is more detailed), and Karajorma is right, I did expect that kind of response to it, but I really don't care... I'm 17, I consider myself to be a person with a level of maturity equaled to that of an adult, so I won't bother making a big deal out of those jokes... and it really isn't my fault that you don't have enough sex, making you think of it as a "tabu", like our grannies did...

The "dick" is going to stay there, because *I* like it there. I saw that on Dark's model and thought "yeah it looks really cool", and decided the the sol ships would have a vertical design, like the Njord. Also, for those who say the thing doesn't have any function, lemme tell you you are so wrong.... anyone who has some lights on phisics knows that having maneuverability thrusters in the bottom part of the "dick" will make the ship pitch and roll faster... oh and did I mention that Sol ships don't turn sideways, only roll? Well that's how they are gonna fly, in order to give a different flying experience to the player.

I really thrust that you will get your mouths shut and kneel on my feet when a decent texturer textures the ship.

And I guess that's it. Know that I don't feel offended by all of this. Instead, I think that many of you must grow up a bit and apreciate from an artistic POV all new models that pass by. I'm sure you don't laugh at hell when you see a good painting with naked people. Instead, you apreciate it from an artistic point of view, and the thought of pornography doesn't even flashes in your mind... at least that's what happens to me.

Everything has an essence, and I try to put all my essence in my models, which is something I rarely do (show my essence and my mind to others), so consider yourself some very lucky guys
My models, and surely the ones of other people, are an open knowledge and ideology book.

Don't say I didn't warn you ( I've had my share of those stupid jokes too, to be honest ).
I think you should keep the "thing" ( w/o it, the ship would be just plain ), but change the tip of it, give it a more mechanical/aerodynamical/whatever else you'd want shape, or something. Not mucgh work to keep the thing and get rid of the idiotic remarks like the ones you've had.

I really liked the Erinyes II you did, looks like the Herc 2 compared to the Herc 1.

Well, there's art, and then there's stuff that makes you go This, for many people, is one of those. I believe that when an element of something becomes so overpowering as to become distracting, then it's time to drop it. Besides, the penis of Michaelangelo's David wasn't a two foot-long monstrocity

Art, like anything, is subjective. It's no use to sit and moan about how people don't "get" it; those people are, in the end, the ones who will determine the future of your work. The artist cannot create in a vacuum: he or she must always keep the audience in mind. For many artists, there is a wide audience who appreciete them, while Andy Warhol types favor the "in-joke". My take on it is, when you start to create art purely for your own pleasure, that becomes ego masturbation - no pun intended .

Which isn't to say that you shouldn't enjoy what you do - but when people who gladly leap into Mary Poppins lesbian sex discussion think you're being a little too, erm, blatently Freudian, then you might have a problem.

Just to get something straight: from my opinion, it wasn't that it resembled a penis that was funny, it was that it was so blatently made in the image of a penis, it was distracting. I can see what you meant about wanting to make it vertical, but look at the Hercules models.. or.. whatever ships have been made vertically. They'd be pretty funny lucky if instead of wings n' fins, they had long, cylindrical shafts with mushroom heads on the ends, now wouldn't they?

If you wanted to keep it the same idea, but make it look better, you could straighten the back a of the 'fin' a bit, keep the front edge bent, and but engines/thruster places on the fin. It'd look cooler, show off the purpose of it, and make it not look like a penis IMO.

And to all the people saying it's bad to comment on it: He kinda posted it in a public forum.. to show off, which we usually proceed to critique, right? So you're going to get some inmaturity.. it comes with the subject matter of it looking like a penis. That'll never change. And a penis on a starship is hardly comparable to a penis on a man in a painting. One of them obviously tends to belong more than the other..

First of all, as I said before, the ship will stay as it is... you don't like it? fine, you can close your eyes if you ever have to fly with or against it... or you just don't fly at all...
One thing is certain: the Njord won't have a fin, like most of my other fighters do...

Also, about art, the artists really don't care about the audience at all... they do it as their own pleasure. If you wanna know, most of the famous artists from nowadays (not just paintings, but poetry and everything else...) only received credit for their work after they were dead... so you can see their *big* worries about their audiences...
And I do agree that art is subjective... I also agree that art comes for self "ego masturbation" as you call it...

KT: you are wrong... so wrong... The comparison of the penis on a man and the penis on a ship is just your imagination... you saw the "fin" and you quickly associated it with a penis and voila...
I, on the other hand, when making the ship, the thought of the "penis look" never crossed my mind...
And yes, I posted in a public forum, and I expected critique. But I expected decent critique, not a childish one, but what the hell...

Well, so much for constructive criticism.

It's your model and you can keep it like you want, but you said that it should be a rather old fighter, IIRC. That 'beard' and the thing hanging on it are rather rounded and give it a very modern look. You said that the phallic thing should be some kind of pod with thrusters. I suggest that you make a wing like in the pic above and attach some pod on it, perhaps looking like the one seen on the wingtips on the Starfurys, for example. And cut off part of the 'beard' or make it less pointy. just some suggestions

Well, I never said it was an old fighter... it is an old design (from RL that is... it has about one year the original design...)

I may add some more detail to the model, but the general look will be the same...
About the constructive criticism... I do take it, but not on this one... not after the big story beinhd it... instead, I will apply that criticism for future models...
That should make everybody happy
