Author Topic: FS2_open Installer?  (Read 1358 times)

Ok, I've been wondering if anyone is working on an installer for FS2_open.  Something that will install the launcher, setup the registry, copy necessary files for features that the user wants.  Basically, do everything but install FS2 itself (meaning it requires the person to have FS2 retail installed or maybe the HOTU version).

Since I've just finished exams and have a bit of free time, I was thinking about learning to use NSIS and creating a simple installer for this.  But if someone is already working on it, I'll be content to sit back and play Freespace2 instead XD

Well, I've already got a working installer for the FS2 Full install project I'm working on.

I used Inno Setup.

The things I need to work on now are the documentation, and such. I was going to release an early version [ just the installer ] to be tested next week.

The thing is, I was holdgin back on this because there's a lot going on right now with the SCP, and to release a package with the current builds would be a bit premature.

Cheers!

Well if I were you I'd just release a version with generic names for the exe, FRED, launcher and media.vp

Although there is a lot going on with the SCP and the actual builds used are going to change versions we'll be using the 4 file set-up for a while long I suspect.

Then you simply need to include a readme with the version numbers. If the only problem is updating it when the build changes I'd be willing to do that.
