Good Idea, or Bad Idea?
Something came to mind today while I was getting ready for work, but I'm not sure if its an idea people would be interested in employing.

I was thinking, that with the added support not just for multi-species, but for bonding different effects to each species, some of which are already present in Vanilla FS2, perhaps we could do different special warp effects (Knossos jumping), depening not on what species of ship is entering the device, but which species made it.  Its already been established that an Ancients' constructed portal warps with a green effect, a Shivan portal would warp with a red effect obviously, and perhaps a GTVA portal would warp with either orange (Vasudan influence) or perhaps purple (Terran, a bit different but green and blue were already secured for Ancients and standard warps).

Implimentable... I'm not sure.

Demanded... Accepted... Tolerated... that's what the thread title is for.

[hijack]u know what would be kewl for shivan warps? Instead of the fighters jumping out with their individual warp holes, make them swarm out of one big warp hole[/hijack]

Isn't that what happened in the intro FS1 and during the ending sequence? On both scenes, fighters just seem to pour out of the rip in subspace and also in Delta Serpentis.

for the final fs1 cut scene thats cause they used sub space tracking or whatever so they could all get in the same tunnel in the first place.

As for your idea, it sounds good, but why not have terran as blue cause basically there wont be a 'standard' hole if your having different colours for each species

Meh, if someone can be arsed to coed this and get art for it fair enough. But I'm not going to sit here demaninding it. I'm in the 'sub-space is sub-space' camp, believing that the subspace effect shouild be the same for everyone since everyone's entering the same dimension (or whatever it is) with technology that operates on basically the same principle (if different methods)

I agree with you there pretty much DG. The Knossos got a different effect not because the ancients built it but because it was a different way of opening a subspace portal. The shivans have always had jump points that look like the terrans ones so it would look odd if they suddenly changed.

However TBP would probably appreciate this so they could have different entry and exit points and other total conversions may find it useful so for non Freespace mods it's worth having.

Oh yes indeed. But it's one thing to make different colour sub-space vortices. It's another to make new effects like B5 or warp effects

ok, check da siggy first.

now, IIRC there is an option to open a subspacehole with a certain ani/pof already available, and there is a no warphole thingy too. so, why is this here and not in FS-modding?

this would over complicate things.

...and it would make the knossos jump effect not as cool.
