You think asinine fanboyism is news? I don't think there's been one technical advance or offshoot that hasn't been viciously fought over by fanatical if sedentary mobs in the last ten years.
It's something to ride your ego on if you've got nothing else- "I may be a virgin at thirty, living in my mom's basement, working for minimum wage as a janitor, and balding, but Goddamnit, I've got a damn fine game system"- with varying degrees of severity. Hell, there's even become in trolling an entire near-Olympic-level sport of hunting down and picking fights with those whose self-esteem is so low as to provide only weak resistance.
But that's largely irrelevant, as I haven't seen this deal get genuinely heated yet here.
Yes, there are lots of games for the consoles, that's rather the point. But you can't exactly dismiss the specific games for each as irrelevant- on a console, it's entirely the point. We're not pitting an N64 against a Gamecube, here, what's in the box is gonna be besides the point 90% of the time- it's what you can run on it. And, by the very nature of consoles, you can only run games. So, you go for the console that has the most games that you, personally, want on it. Subjective, yes. But so's basically any rating of quality when it comes to games. I don't know exactly what you're looking for, here, some divine revelation that one console is Better in the absolute than any other? Have fun. Don't bother us about it.
The question of this thread, last I checked, was whether an X-Box was worth the buy (along with some niggling hardware problem that got disposed of rather quickly). That's about as subjective a call as you can get. I'd say, you got the money, buy me an Xbox. Others think other game systems are more worth the money. We're all giving our reasons why. They're all quite subjective and pretty silly to boot. Getting up on a high horse about some objective truth that just plain ain't there doesn't elevate the discussion or indeed further it in any other direction, though it does produce irritable semirants from my direction.
