That was my argument before, but considerning the evolution of games, it's more costy to change your videocard than to buy a console. And once you're done, you're ****ed ( bybye your old glide games ), while the old console, well it still works.
Sony is more worried about releasing this baby over here than releasing any other playstation!!
Of course, they're more worried, the PS3 will sell well, this strange thing, go wonder.
If anyone of you haven't noticed, the consoles are experiencing the same thing pc's went through some years ago, the offer level is starting to be much higher than the consumers... "need"?
No negative thoughs behind this question but: how old are you?
In the early 90', you had, at the same time, 3 different 3DO, the CDI, the amiga CD32, the megadrive ( sega console, european name ) with the 32X and the megaCD, the jaguar, the supernes, the neogeo ( was still around ) and the PSX and saturn where about to show up. I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple, and I left the handweld ones aside ( I can count at least 4 of them ).
I'm still astonished by Sega stopping making consoles, and that there's only 3 real ones around, and you come and say there's too many of them?
Ah well, different times, I guess

Anyway... consoles are doomed to become pc's, they are becoming multitask machines designed not only for gaming in general, but also for surfing the web, watching dvd's, etc... it's only a matter of time until they put the MS Office on the box!!!
