homeplanet is finished!
But it can't find a publisher, apparently (this months PCG) - meaning it may die a death soonish.  Interesting indicator of the state of the space sim genre, isn't it?

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Played the demo.

This looks exactly like the B5:IFH. Has to be the same engine. Company trying to make money off of an openly available engine? Mreh. Dunno what's going on.

It's developed by a lot of the same people who did IFH, it uses a modified IFH engine.

This seems to be the 'commerical game' half of IFH to justify making the engine.

It'd be nice to see Homeplanet make it, if only to have another newtonian physics based game. Besides, its gotta be better than X2.

But with an IWAR2 ORB. That immediately improves it.

Don't like those things much actually, way too messy :doubt:

A+ on the site design.  Looks great, easy to work with, everything easily accessed, and most of all quick loading speed.

The game, however, I am iffy about.  While I have not played it(and doubt I ever will now...), I feel that there must be some reason that it went gold in Russia and not nearly as good here in the 'States.  Is it possible that Russia has a more open mind when it comes to games?

Core devs of Homeplanet and IFH are pretty much the same, the engine is same. IFH uses modified HP engine.

Was it ever released in the states?

Remeber Russia doesn't have the same history of gaming as the rest of the world - I don't think communism allowed it, so it was isolated - which means they don't have the same preconceptions and cliches as 'here'.

Western video games.  i.e. from the US, Uk, etc.  i.e. no Dizzy Egg or Frogger, I reckon.

Looks mad cool. I really hope they find someone to publish it cuz who knows, maybe it'll revive the SciFi industry.
