I think there should be a section on the Forums devoted to zips and any other downloads for Freespace 2 that way it will be easier to find a file other than searching around for it. So many files are listed in the forums that I have a hard time looking for them even with HLP's search function.

If you want smg. you could ask to have that included there - or if it's something modewise than you could start a thread with the title: collected mods in progress ect.
Maintain the first post including the new stuff people post below Lightspeed's media thread style.

exactly! Why not a new Forum post instead of a  thread in the General Freespace just in Main HLP like all the other stuff I see out there.

That would be an idea. But just to be clear, Falcon, what files exactly did you have in mind? We do have a fair few in the main site database.

Well, the idea has potential. A forum only the moderators can post in, there'll be a "thread" for every category of files containing, each thread has only ONE post with links to all files there are for the category (along with a bit of description) -- those posts will be updated as often as possible.

However, getting people who would keep something like that up-to-date, and people who'd list EVERY file there is till now on there will be hard to find

I don't think it's been updated since I first appeared, what, 3 months ago ?

Heres the way I see it, It will be call Freespace Download Database or FDD and will have listed ships, campaings, effects, and other sorts of files, forum rule would be this only provide the file and a description of it.

Hopefully no one will get the dumb idead to start chatting about it, (thats what the mods and general freespace forums are for).
 

Also we could make a forum of SCP's downloads making it easier to find the latest builds.
