Hmm... Thats a rather odd piece of art tho. I wouldnt even call that art. Ugh, I hate modern art people. I would toss a bloody spotlight at it cause its a crappy piece of art. BUT...

Someone of such high stature shouldn't have acted that way. But come on, he wasnt suppressing the freedom of speech. He was just pissed and venting his anger.

can't say I disagree with him, but it's an ambasidor's job to make there contry look good to others, and while I'm sure most Israeli will be like "hell yeah!!", there not the one's he should be trying to look good in front of.

but that was sort of like makeing a shrine glorifying Hitler

He attacked a piece of art?

Surely he'd be better off throwing rock[et]s at some Palestinians?

That's the problem with the concept of a Jewish state. Jews see themselves are a persecuted people, so if anyone does anything even remotely against their interests, even if it's completely mundane and trivial, they kick up a fuss.

Unfortunately this seems true, certainly to the outsider. From where I'm sitting, Jewish policy is extremely arrogant.

Where in the article did it state or imply that the art piece was glorifying the suicide bomber.

IT WAS HER FACE FLOATING ON A POOL OF BLOOD.

That's not glorification, that's denunciation.

They did not print an explanation from the artist at all. They only printed "[the ambassador] said he was ashamed I was a Jew...". That's the only thing we get from the artist. Even if he WAS glorifying the wench, that's his right and this lackwit should have known better than to destroy it.

You lot are quick to leap to the worst possible conclusion (and I'm quick to leap to the most favorable, I guess).
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

Art's subjective, so it's not exactly surprising that an Israeli diplomat would see it as any 'atrocity'.

has anyone disagreed with this?

and it could suposedly be interpeted either way it seemed to me that it was a depiction of her triumpf over the evil ocupation by killing jews, maybe if she wasn't smileing or floating on the blood it would seem more like a denouncement. maybe it's actualy one of those peices that's suposed to bring out ones own inner predjudice

A woman smiling while riding down/around-on a river/lake of blood doesn't exactly say "I'm a fluffy bunny" to me.

He should've known better, especially since he was a guest of another country. Vandalism doesn't accomplish anything.

Mind you, it's not as if it took any real skill to produce this 'art', so the loss is minimal. :P

Well, nowadays you dont need any artistic skills to make Modern Art. Hell, I'll never forget one modern Art exhibition here in finland, where the bloody artist had three blenders, ontop of two washing machines. All were on. All filled with his body fluids. (Urine, Blood, Semen. This is no joke) on one corner theres a bed with a pink phone on it and in the other a coke bottle filled with urine. You can imagine the smell after 3 days... It was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. And people were applauding it.

I remember when a landscape painting used to be considered art.

Then all the elitist ****-heads got into the business and started just trying to out-mind**** each other and find some excuse to label people they didn't like 'uncultured'.

Well. That cleared something up. Though I'm rather shocked at how the embassador acted. I didn't think he went as far as to act like a pittle prissy 5 year old. Oh well...

But still, I think the "artist" who made that was trying to be provocative, with a touchy subject. I hate that kinda of art.

Hmmm... I'm not sure what to make of it, especially not after reading the text of the exhibit.

Hmm.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Quite a provocative text. You know, I do not agree with her actions but I can feel for her as a human being.
