I`ve been changing between the fs_open_3_5.exe and the 12-05-2003-fs2-open-r.exe...Ive noticed probs using pilots created with one exe when using a different one...correct...mostly CTD...

This is in the wrong forum.

Sometimes we change things in fs2_open that require a new pilot file to be create. Either have a different pilot for each version or just keep to the most recent.

The EXEs *shouldn't* crash, though.  The pilot versions are supposed to be compatible from one version to another.

I though creating a new pilot file fixed techroom glitches and the like; you'd get strange errors with old pilot files but not at pilot load.  Anything dealing with the campaign, though, tends to get screwed around with when the pilot versions change IIRC.

if i open a pilot in FS_open which was created in FS_vanilla, or vice versa, it just wipes all campaign progress, but I can still acess single missions and cutscenes.

This is what should happen.

and that's why I haven't seen past "As Lightening Falls" for the past 6 months...:sigh:

Do I need to keep the original FS and FRED exe. files if I'm using _open by the way ?

No, but it's a good idea.
