Does the SCP have the potential to reach the status that Desert Combat and Counter Strik has reached?

no, because FS isn't a very popular game.

Good sentiment, a bit misguided perhaps, but a good sentiment.  I don't want to be a downer, but right now this community is composed of people who love Freespace.  Most of us prefer FS as a single-player experience primarily.

If FSO became as big as CS, we would be up to our eyebrows with whiney, bratty net-kitties who would get into knockdown-dragouts over whether the Serapis is a better interceptor than the Perseus or not.

I for one don't want this community to become that.

That said, if it takes off in S. Korea then we're good to go!

BTW, the Perseus is the best!:p

1) What Carl Said

2) What Lib said

3) No, because it ain't a campaign, it's an upgrade to the original game

4) That much publicity would literally crush the community as we know it IMO. We thrive on this adaptable storyline we have going with an easy to use mission creator. And Ironically, the sudden 'cancelation' of any sequel to freespace is the thing that makes most of this community work.. because that cancelation gave us the ultimate cliffhanger, and that much more creative inspiration.

If FS2 ever grew to CS proportions, Interplay or whoever would jump at that **** in half a minute and some versionof FS3 would surely be out within 6 months. Wether it would be worthy or not.. I don't know..

1) The Babylon Project
2) Star Wars Conversion
3) The Apocalypse Project

All of those could win masses of relyable players.

Not unless it grows into a stand-alone game, and even then it'd be unlikely because of the download requirements.

If the SCP is ever again compared to that *insert curses here* counterstrike i'll send some sathanas to Sol...

I'm sure the community will grow. I can see it growing.

But the main reasons why it wont get as big is

a) FS2 contains no violence

b) You need brains to understand and play the game

c) it's not a stupid ego shooter.

So, put in other words, i'm glad the community will never be quite like those of the ego shooters.

What the good man said.

CS is full of nerdy idiots who need a good slap accross their face. I stopped playing because half the people who DO play constantly use profanities, are extremely rude, and are KIDS.
Which is why i generally try to stick with the story-driven or complex games, since such immature brats dont understand and get bored with 'em. :hopping:

*sticks to his FS2*
:)

Back to the topic: NO.
Reasons stated above. FS2 is too good to be spoiled by those people, and it forever will remain the pure and holy game that it is today

i stopped playing CS because it does need a tiny bit of concentration, but not enough to make it interesting. so if i want stupid shooting, i'll play some HL MP, if i want complicated FPS'ng, i'll play Natural Selection (HL Mod) online. if i want interseting flying, i'll play FS.

Counter Strike is like any other on-line game. Find a good server, preferably with people you know in real life, and it's a real laugh.

Console split screens are good, but having no idea where you pal is and not being able to see their view to get hints, is great.

And stop all this FPS bashing. :hopping:

Many of the old CS players seem to have moved on to Desert Combat. The community is pretty stupid on both games

I believe FS community will grow and that's a good thing. And the fact that you have to use more than 0.1% of you brain capacity to play tends to scare away all the idiots :p

yeah, there's no bloody violence, but still a lot of death. I mean, the body count from the NTF war is what? about 80,000 I think.

CS was a wonderful game, but I doubt that any future games (except MMORPGs) will ever reach the same popularity of CS, not only FSO.
And not because CS was THAT good (well, probably it was but that's not the point).
Plus space sims never NEVER reached the same multiplayer popularity of other games (and they usually aren't big sellers anyway), for many reasons, with the main one being the gameplay.
BUT FSO may obtain a good popularity, if it'll have a good multiplayer system and the "right" mods with the "right" gameplay.
I remember aldo launching the FS2k3 project one year(or more) ago....
That's the way to follow guys.....
well, no... that's A way to follow.
Another one is persistent variables on multiplayer campaigns and squadwar for example;)

also dedicated servers (i.e : support) would help

I'd say more suggested than launched..... The problem has always been that i have many, many more ideas than time to work on them.  Otherwise I'd be responsible for about 25 projects :)
