What a strange film.

Throughout the 130min there are various tales of the life of the main character as told from first and third person perspective, each incredibly cohesive and very good in their own right. You're presented with the most whimsical version told by Edward, then you'll occasionally hear the 'real version' which only increases the depth and feel-good-factor of each tale.

Though through the entire film there's this sense that everything seems a little too fragmented. Things jump around a little too much and you're largely left feeling that you've missed something. That is, right up until the last 10-20 minutes when everything comes together spectacularly and there's all kinds of nuances and metaphors that pop up and make you realise one thing: It was all true.

The cinematography is awesome, as is set-dressing and the comparatively miniscule amount of music helps to affirm the feeling that you're actually having the story told to you by an old man laying on his death-bed.

I highly recommend this film.

There's just one thing that bugs me: The eye.

I suppose it could all just be a metaphor. He saw in her eyes the end of him. That staying with the 'witch' and leaving his wife would 'kill' him, but I'd like to think he did see something, that he knew how he was going to die.

I suppose that's the point, really. After watching it, I want to believe it's true.......

no, it's basically about a son whose father is always telling "tall tales" (hence the name of the movie title, "Big Fish", about the infamous fish that people catch that get larger and larger and larger every time the tale's told)... anyway, the father tells his life story to his son, one bit at a time, it's actually a very well put together movie, the story is deep, but easy to understand, and well set up.

it's definately on my top 10 movies of 2003.  one of the better movies i've seen in my life.

I'm too poor to drink and I'm getting regular [non-sex] excercise.

It sucks. I can't increase my muscle-mass without making myself happy. It's a total goddamn rip-off.
